Cleaning sticky gloss kitchen doors

magicstar1 · 15/06/2021 13:22

I've been working from home for a year now, and have fallen behind on a lot of cleaning. The kitchen doors have a high gloss finish, but are covered in sticky fingermarks, drips etc. I can't use anything to scour, but does anyone have a good tip to clean without ruining the finish?
Thanks.

Window cleaner. I use the method one but any will do.

Elbow grease spray.

The e cloths that are for glass are good for this.

Glass cleaner with a microfbre cloth.

You can also do it with a barely wet microfibre cloth and hot water and washing up liquid but it takes skill.

I’ll try the window cleaner first as I have it here. It hasn’t helped that we got a hairy dog in lockdown lol

If you have a steam mop , there is an attachment with a small cloth on it that I use.

Yes yes to the window cleaner. But also I use soapy water in a spray bottle and then wipe with a tea towel - works great and no smears!

I do mine as described above with hot water, washing up liquid, and a microfibre cloth. Or two cloths, one to wash, one to dry.

Yayayaya20 · 15/06/2021 14:20

Fairy liquid will cut through the grease surely

magicstar1 · 15/06/2021 14:21

@linerforlife I used to do them with just soapy water in a bottle like that...a quick wipe with a microfibre mop and they were sparkling.
Unfortunately it's been a while and they stickiness is too much for it to handle.

This is the best product I’ve found for glass, glossy kitchen cupboards and Perspex.
Anything to reduce the time spent doing a job I hate.

Hot soapy water, rinse with clean water and buff dry. (Bonus is a free bingo wings workout).
Sometimes there really isn’t a short cut.

I use CiF kitchen cleaner on mine. Although I'm currently working my way through a dettol bottle, cif definitely works better.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 15/06/2021 14:25

Hot water and washing up liquid. You want to get them properly clean. Glass window spray is good for a spot marks or a quick refresh but if yours haven't been cleaned for ages then you'll want to actually wash them.

Another vote for window cleaner. We also have a dog - The hair gets everywhere. When cleaning I don't pay much attention to the hair sticking to the units, I just do the best I can, then wait until it dries and then dust / hoover them off.

hot water and washing up liquid with a microfibre cloth to get the worst of the sticky off then glass spray i use aldis one with lemon in it, and dry with a cotton towelling type tea towel mine come up lovely

I'm seconding Elbow Grease spray, I use it on my glass hob and it's the only cleaner which leaves a completely streak free finish.
