Just been checking DD hair for the dreaded headlice, please tell me lockdown has finally eradicated them and they are gone the way of the dinosaur 🦕🦕🦕

Has anyone seen some lately?

Was wondering about this the other week, but I assume they are just biding their time, surely they will survive armageddon?

Ooh OP you’ve just made me realise we’ve not had any since pre Covid. Maybe they’re all self isolating.

Unfortunately not, my foster children came to me riddled! 😢

Glad I'm not the only one to wonder if they are gone.

I saw them the first time they released us from lockdown back what feels like 100 years ago as DD went to a friend's when we were allowed to literally the first time we were allowed out. She didn't have them before as had checked her a few times just in case then checked her a few days after the visit and argh!

So think that was about a year ago...I don't know I've lost all sense of time in the last year!

I bet the ones that have survived are real stubborn bastard's probably a crack team....

Oh no poor kids, you do have to keep in top of them unfortunately and I suspect as they are foster kids that might not have been happening?

Although I will never forget the first time we had them i had been checking the kids hair but not with a comb just looking through them, no one had told me you need to comb through don't trust your eyes. We were in IKEA and I spotted one crawling through DD hair 😱 I felt awful but it was just something I never knew. So isn't alway about neglect just lack of knowledge/ experience.

We perfected a regime after some trial and error and have always combed once a week expect during lockdown

*Except not expect... don't know why it changed that!

There have been two outbreaks recently in my son's school. I hate the little blighters! (the lice, not the kids)

Noooooo don't tell me that Spook I hate them to. They are the scourge of my curly haired DDs and you can never kill them all off first time...still we have a major stock of silicone based treatments to suffocate the little fuckers.

DS had a field trip with school last week and afterwards one of the mothers messaged the entire class saying everyone should check for ticks as she had been brushing her DD's hair and had found one crawling in it. I don't think it was a tick.

Sorry to say, we got a email from the school about a lice outbreak this week.

Instead of breathing lessons NCT classes should be teaching how to manage and recognise common childhood aliments including, how to manage headlice.

Backin could you reply saying are you sure it's not headlice?

Fucking hundreds of the things I’m afraid. Two of mine have had major infestations this term.

Nope they back! We past the newsletter nits classes who have child with nits are getting texts the tone is at point u know they wana just name who it is, but DS has told me who scratching head.

Rather child got nits than itchy bum worms! Threadworms makes me want to burn house down, we deworming and no alternative than expensive meds

Sadly if they are still alive it means some poor kids have had them all this time, although there have been some kids attending school throughout the pandemic.

@Sickoffamilydrama unfortunately it wasn't being dealt with to the extent that the children were on antibiotics and the kids had them going down their backs to bite them as they ran out of room to feed in their heads 😓

OMG poor kids, it's not that difficult to pour some silicone based treatment on their heads. Although the key for me is always retreating every 5- 7 days a few times.

Although the treatments can be expensive so for some families that may be the issue.

Thriving and riding the human carousel at my kids school!! How infestations got through lockdown to continue to succesfully do the rounds is a credit to the survival strategy of the little buggers. I was really hoping that at least a significant reduction in prevalence would be one of the silver linings of covid....but no, within 2 weeks of returning from home schooling the letter was going out!

We couldn't use any kind of treatment on their hairs so it was old fashioned combing method. Took two weeks but children are now lice free!

I have my own children too so a bit of a pro at lice killing! (4 daughters all with long thick hair) We have a white pillowcase (a must to see the blighters that ping off and tweezers which have been renamed bug squashers. I kill every single one that I get off their heads and I cannot lie but find it oddly satisfying! 🤓🤷‍♀️
