There we go! Sorry if there is a thread like this…but what’s the best book you’ve ever read? Or I guess the book that left you thinking about it for days after?

For me I would say The Kite Runner

Loved The Kite Runner and other booked by Khaled Hosseini. And all Donna Tartt. And Shantaram. But for me it has to be A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry. Such a brilliant book.

The last lecture by Randy Pauche, wish I’d have met him, he sounds like an amazing man. Each time I read it it’s like it shares another life lesson and gives me more to ponder on.

Hard to narrow it down ... maybe
Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell

LividBlabber · 14/06/2021 20:04

I do not understand the appeal of A Secret History in the slightest. Barely remember the plot. Posh school and piffle?

Can one of its many fans enlighten me on what I missed?

bubblebath62636 · 14/06/2021 20:05

The book theif

JhsLs · 14/06/2021 20:06

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini is immense.
I loved Life of Pi - it’s great if you can get past the first 90 pages rattling on about religion.

ICECream821 · 14/06/2021 20:06

Girl A, so much better then the BBC documentary did. I cried at the book ....

thecognoscenti · 14/06/2021 20:09

Behind the Scenes at the Museum was wonderful. One of the few books to have made me laugh and cry. Such a rich novel.

Another Secret History fan, too! Looks like it's popular.

The Thomas Cromwell trilogy by Hilary Mantel. Spellbinding.

Also - less highbrow perhaps - The Silence of the Lambs and Good Omens are books I return to again and again.

BlueRaincoat1 · 14/06/2021 20:11

What I Loved by Siri Hustvedt. I was just blown away when I read it, I loved it so much.

Donna Tartt - The Little Friend
Elizabeth Strout - Olive Kitterage

Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell. So clever.

ExhaustedGrinch · 14/06/2021 20:14

I loved The Kite Runner but for me it would have to be All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, it's one of the most beautifully written books I've ever read.

evtheria · 14/06/2021 20:17

I’m panicking trying to remember books I love the most, but if I must choose then East of Eden by John Steinbeck.

PeskyRooks · 14/06/2021 20:17
