Forgetfulness

I just wanted to check if my level of forgetfulness is normal. I will do things, then two minutes later I will be really absorbed in thinking about something else and completely forget what I have done / am doing.

So for example I'll dial into a zoom. If the person is late I will minimise the screen and do other work. Within two minutes I forget I'm on a zoom and the person scares the shit out of me when they speak.

Or I wash my hair, and very shortly forget whether I've already shampooed it, or if I'm at the conditioner stage. I have to look at the shampoo bottle to see if there are wet finger marks on it.

This happens with almost everything. It's not a new thing, I've always been like it. Anyone else like this?

This sounds like me. I was recently diagnosed with dyspraxia, which has answered many lifelong questions I’ve had (a lot of people think it just makes you clumsy but it’s a developmental disorder that affects pretty much every area of life). I’m also awaiting an ADHD assessment.

So I’m not sure that it’s ‘normal’ but it’s certainly my reality!

Well - for an ADD brain this is perfectly normal - without my reminders and analog bullet journal I'd be lost.

It sounds exactly like me. I've never been diagnosed with anything though and have gone through life thinking it normal. It is normal. My normal. Irritating though (especially the zoom call thing!)

I am like this when stress is high. And when tired.

Is this a new thing for you?

I've always been like it. I have considered ADD, and do seriously wonder if I'm dyspraxic (in the sense of can't catch, can't drive, but don't have a problem organising myself). One of the reasons I don't drive is that I would forget that I was the one driving the car (during lessons! I've never passed the test), and also had very little spatial awareness.

For the forgetfulness (which I guess is maybe more absent mindedness) I don't mind it really - I keep myself in check with lots of lists, and it's kind of helpful at work as I need to skip from thing to thing which I can do and keep quite intense focus when I switch. Was just curious how normal it was!
