Charming old traditions

I have been talking to my Aunt today and we have been having a nostalgiafest about the past. Remembering fetes, maypole dancing and being given a piece of hot cross bun at church on Easter Sunday.
Does anyone have charming old traditions from their childhood that have either died out or are far less common these days?

@HoldontoOneMoreDay
One child once said out loud in assembly after the filmstrip:
'Only HALF his cloak? And he got made a saint for that?!'

Yes to 'paying' for a gift of knives and to putting money in a purse before giving it to someone.

Not from my childhood but something we found while clearing my late MILs house: a champagne cork with a vertical cut through the middle with an old half-crown placed in it. The wire cage put back around it to hold it together. Apparently to bring luck, we think it was from their wedding day.
