Would you isolate?

Hello, my sons close friend has tested positive for Covid, there whole family has. My son spent Friday evening at their house, in the sons bedroom playing on computer. Mum got tested Friday night as a precaution due to work and found out during Friday night it was positive, and then their family got tested on Saturday.

My son is listed as a close contact - they have my details etc. We got him tested on Saturday and result was negative.

We’ve had nothing through from Test and Protect (we are in Scotland) but I feel like my son should isolate anyway as would expect that something will come through? Would you keep off school etc even without NHS message?

I'd give it a few more days - is it 4 days after exposure is the peak time to test positive?

daisybrown37 · 13/06/2021 12:43

I would isolate him, he was a definite close contact.

Snufflebabe05 · 13/06/2021 12:44

I’m just thinking there’s no way he won’t have picked it up - they have spent all their time together in school, break times, then hours together on Friday after school.

Yes, you know he was a close contact so he shouldn’t be going to school.

LeafBeetle · 13/06/2021 12:46

Yes he should isolate in these circumstances.

Akire · 13/06/2021 12:47

Yes yes yes. Even if track and trace don’t get round to telling you officially. He has been in direct contact and could have it. Why wouldn’t you ?

Overdueanamechange · 13/06/2021 12:49

Yes absolutely he needs to isolate. What is the guidance now for when he can test himself?

ineedaholidaynow · 13/06/2021 12:51

Yes I would be isolating him. Will school list him as a contact? In our local schools (England) the school works as test and trace. So parents should notify school as soon as get positive result and then they work out who would be a contact or burst the whole bubble and notify parents immediately. They don’t wait for Monday morning

Have they given Test and Protect his details? Yes he should isolate but may be a bit early to test
Snufflebabe05 · 13/06/2021 13:12

Yes - his details were given. Just wondering how quick the alerts would come from either NHS or school. Friend tested yest and confirmed overnight.

We have done a home test and it’s still negative.

yes I would isolate him. Either the school or test and trace will be in contact soon.

You can get a pcr as a close contact now.

aiwblam · 13/06/2021 13:16

He's a close contact for sure.

Crinkle77 · 13/06/2021 13:54

My friend caught covid from a work colleague. She didn't get a positive result until her 3rd test.
