Saw someone who wasn't there

Walking back from the supermarket this evening with OH and DD in the pram. OH was pushing the pram up the hill on a bit of pavement that is wide enough to walk 2 abreast and I was walking beside him. The road is busy so you can't walk in the road to pass someone coming the other way (relevant).

I looked up and saw a jogger coming down the hill towards us. He was wearing a white polo shirt and white shorts and had a white sweatband on his head, I thought to myself he had a strange gait. I quickly moved behind OH into single file to let him pass us and OH was like why are you going behind? I said I'm letting the man past. He said "what man?" I looked up and there was no one there.

Really weird but I 100% saw him.

I'm not at all woo by the way. Never experienced anything like this before. Just Google Charles Bonnet syndrome. I do wear glasses for relatively mild short sightedness in 1 eye and astigmatism in the other but I was wearing my prescription sunglasses and not felt my vision has changed recently.

My DD had this when she was a child. Several people at her bedroom door, screaming at her (but no sound). I told her it was probably a dream but even now as an adult, she is adamant it was real.

My Mum and sibling both saw an old man in the corner of the kitchen, then he suddenly vanished.

OoglyMoogly · 13/06/2021 11:40

I often think there's someone near to me but when I look there's no one there.

SandwichTray · 13/06/2021 11:49

Interesting. Could he have gone into one of the houses before you would have passed him?

BindTheWobbinUp · 13/06/2021 11:49

I've experienced something similar.
Driving up a steep hill in my home town on a summer evening, there was a man and woman dressed in big overcoats walking up the road on my side (no footpath on that side) as I went to drive around them they both turned to look at me but almost in slow motion. When I looked back in the rear view mirror they weren't there.
One of the weirdest experiences, and one I've never told anyone about.

Iusedtoliveinsanfrancisco · 13/06/2021 12:05

Maybe look up in local news whether there was ever an accident in that stretch where a jogger died.

Confusedaboutlots · 13/06/2021 12:17

Never heard of charles bonnet syndrome before this thread but from the nhs website it sounds like it can cause people to imagine strange people - sounds like it could be a big explanation for many unexplained sightings

Hallyup6 · 13/06/2021 12:23

My medication makes me hallucinate, I see all sorts of people/things/general shit, so it's possible that it's vaccine related. Brains can do weird stuff.

I hadn't heard of it until recently, but my old aunt who has failing eyesight confided one day that she was 'seeing people who weren't there' and just by googling I learnt all about it. It's fascinating, but must be frightening too especially as the person who has the images, believes they are real
Gilead · 13/06/2021 22:01

Had a six hour operation a couple of weeks ago, the drug induced hallucinations were fascinating!

About two years ago one lunchtime I was standing in my kitchen, which is at the front of the house and saw a bald, slim man dressed in grey or white tee shirt jog swiftly down the drive, passing the side of the house towards the back door.
Immediately went to the back door to see who it was. Nobody there. There’s a high hedge and fencing on the border with neighbours that side, plus a big locked gate a couple of metres further on, so nowhere to nip off to. He had vanished.
I was very perplexed and eventually just assumed I’d imagined it!
About a week later I was standing in the kitchen again, talking to a friend who suddenly said, oh you’ve got a visitor coming along to your back door. Went to the back door. No one there.
I asked my friend to describe who she had seen approaching and she described the same sort of bald man jogging down the drive.
Still a mystery.

We had this last year, we both saw a couple in red outfits walking incredibly slowly along a path in an old quarry, towards us.

They took a right turn into a path that goes uphill. Dh and I walk quite fast and when we got to the turn we looked but they’d vanished. From the speed they’d previously been moving at we should have had them in sight.

It’s dense woodland and not the kind of terrain you’d go off path onto unless you had stout walking boots on.

We both still hear our dead cat though so we’re used to spooky stuff.

highheeledhattie · 14/06/2021 19:25

My DH is convinced there is a transverse universe as people always seem to walk right across his path without seeming to notice him.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 14/06/2021 19:39

I wonder if the jogger saw you and thought eek a ghost.

RagzReturnsRebooted · 14/06/2021 19:43

Sounds like old fashioned sports wear, maybe a time slip?

DoingItMyself · 14/06/2021 19:45

Concurrent time.

I'm not in the least bit woo, in fact, I actively don't believe in anything supernatural at all, but a few years ago I was walking along the river footpath with my dog and saw a couple coming towards me, an early-middle-ageish woman and an older man. I looked down at the dog as we got got closer together, because I'm not very sociable, but looked up again when I was nearer, to avoid walking into them, only to see the woman was alone. There was no way the man could have gone anywhere; as I said, it was next to the river, narrow, with railings and with a thickly wooded, very steep bank on the other side. He couldn't have gone back the way they'd come, otherwise I'd have seen him in front of me still, it being a long, barely curved path and we met nearer the end I was walking from. I still think there must have been a logical explanation, but I can't think of what that might be!

JSL52 · 14/06/2021 20:17

This happens to me sometime , but just out of the corner of my eye. Spooky

FictionalCharacter · 14/06/2021 22:38

Your DH thinks it’s the Covid vaccine? That’s a new one Grin

“The Covid vaccine makes people see the ghosts of 1970s Wimbledon tennis players”!

Definitely not out of the corner of my eye. So weird

Definitely do a Covid yellow card to say it made you see an apparition of a 1980s Cliff Richard Grin

Confusedaboutlots · 15/06/2021 22:22

Some of these stories are mind blowing - what feasible explanation is there for two people seeing the same vision?!

i’m not woo at all but just don’t understand it

OP - also can’t understand yours! doubt it’s the jab!

spiderlight · 15/06/2021 23:14

A few years ago DH and I were walking our dogs along a long, straight, fairly narrow path with a fenced horse field on one side and a river on the other. We both clearly saw a man in a navy jacket walking briskly towards us; we called the dogs, put them on the lead (one nervous, one muddy), looked ahead and he'd completely gone. He wasn't in the field and I doubt he'd flung himself into the river to avoid us! Very odd.
