Do you wear an Islamic swimsuit?

How do you get out of it when it's wet? The leggings peel off easily enough, but I had to get my daughter to rescue me from the tunic. The problem is the bra shelf that extends all the way around my torso.

I don’t wear an Islamic suit, but I do wear an spf rash guard that has many similarities. The store i made the purchase at caters both to those who burn easily and those who prefer to avoid the swimwear available at the the typical store. I specifically chose one that doesn’t have a built in bra top. Then I wear an underwire bikini top underneath for support. Having the bra and top separate makes the combo much less unwieldy and more comfortable.

Where did you buy it from, I’ve got a reasonably comfortable one from abs on a few year ago in larger size. No bra bit and I use a bikini underneath.

Heathofhares · 12/06/2021 19:45

Another one here who wears a underwire bikini under a separate top. I get tangled in knots otherwise!

Looks like I'm going to have to buy a bikini. I got the Islamic suit precisely because of the bra shelf and bottom-covering length. It is so much more comfortable than multiple layers of tankini plus rash vest and tankini bottom plus leggings.

Castlepeak · 12/06/2021 23:11

Skip the tankini bottom and just use the leggings as they are.

For this purpose, you want a bikini that resembles a bra. Skimpy is good.

BettyBurntBuns · 12/06/2021 23:32

I don’t understand... are you Islamic?

HelgaDownUnder · 12/06/2021 23:50

Lots of people wear islamic swim suits for sun protection or because they are self conscious about their body. There's a famously mocked picture of Nigella Lawson in one at Bondi beach.

BettyBurntBuns · 12/06/2021 23:55

Which is why if it’s important if she’s wearing it for religious reasons or to cover up....

Ozanj · 12/06/2021 23:55

You can get zip up long sleeved suits and wear them with swim leggings.

Dilbertian · 13/06/2021 10:46

My faith is irrelevant.

My comfort and well-being, however, are.

The Islamic swimsuit (bought from M&S a few years ago) is perfect for me - except for getting the top off when it's wet.

I generally wear a bikini under swim leggings because otherwise they give me a wedgie. The Islamic suit leggings have an extra piece of fabric that prevents the wedgie. The extra length of the top, which can be attached to the leggings, prevents it riding up when I'm in the water, and allows me to wear it as a sunscreening tunic outside the water.

I intensely dislike the feeling of a zip on my neck. But I may have to try it again - maybe they're softer than they used to be.

Ave you looked at skin suits instead? The neckline doesn't come up so high.

This sort

Could you do that link again, please. It doesn't work.

lyraswimwear.com/

LYRA also do some nice ones but I'm not sure how much you were planning to spend.

Dilbertian · 13/06/2021 11:14

I see what you mean about the zip on the neck. Worth trying. But not, I think, as a one-piece Grin One-pieces never fit me as I am long in the torso (hence tankinis, because extra-length swimsuits can be hard to find). And they don't come in my size - 5XL according to that website Hmm.

"I intensely dislike the feeling of a zip on my neck. But I may have to try it again - maybe they're softer than they used to be."

Do you mean on a rash vest? My rash vests don't have a zip, they just pull on over your head (Cressi, bought from Amazon). I find them really comfortable.

Dilbertian · 13/06/2021 11:25

Yes, so do mine. But I have to wear them with a bra. The Islamic one has a very comfortable elasticated bra shelf built in, which makes it impossible to remove when wet.

OP posts:
Reallyreallyborednow · 13/06/2021 11:25

I wear a normal swimsuit underneath- i don’t feel a bikini gives enough support, I find them uncomfortable, and exposing if I want to change.

I wear surf rash kit rather than “islamic” style, the coverage is the same, but slightly more fitted so easier to swim in and two piece so better for getting in and out of.

Great response OP Grin
Pinkywoo · 13/06/2021 11:42

Could you cut the band of the bra shelf that's in your current suit and put hook and eyes on it? Then you could just unhook it like a bra (I'd suggest doing it at the front to make this easier) to take it off.

Yes it is relevant as one require certain functions and the other doesn’t.
BettyBurntBuns · 13/06/2021 11:45

Not sure why you are being shady, I can give you links to swimsuits to swimsuits that will cater towards your needs and this includes religious code. But without knowing if you are Islamic or you require x function, it’s impossible.

It's not really impossible is it sister?

You just drop the links on the thread and hit 'post message'. Then the OP decides whether it's suitable or not 🙄
