Came downstairs to my lovely sausage casserole still sitting on the kitchen side ?

I have to throw don't I esp in this weather ?

Or, do I divide up for my lunches ?! (Not going to give to dc)

I still remember my last bout of food poisoning though and don't fancy reliving it

I would toss it, sorry, especially due to the warm weather.

StuffinThePuffin · 12/06/2021 05:46

I would absolutely still eat it, but I'm really slack with these things. That being said, I've never had food poisoning. Maybe if I had I would be telling you to chuck it...

weaselwords · 12/06/2021 05:51

Oh god, I think I left last night’s takeaway leftovers out. Definitely eating them!

Scarby9 · 12/06/2021 06:01

I would eat it.
I have never been ill from food left out overnight.
My next door neighbour (ex-public health) would not eat it even if it had been in the fridge.
He saw too many instances of people seriously ill from eating reheated food.

olivethegreat · 12/06/2021 06:14

I'm having surgery next week so won't be eating it today !

Normally, I would eat it though. But it was warm overnight ...

I hate wasting food especially nice food !!

@Scarby9 your neighbour won't eat any reheated food? Wow!!

I doubt it was too warm overnight. Where I am it was 24° overnight. I would eat things left out here but in the UK I would. Just reheat it thoroughly.

FindingMeno · 12/06/2021 06:49

I'd chuck.
Admittedly I am over-cautious about that sort of thing.

devildeepbluesea · 12/06/2021 06:53

I'd eat it. It'll be fine, we're not in Equatorial Guinea.

StuffinThePuffin · 12/06/2021 07:42

Hmm... now I'm googling sausage casserole recipes... and I happen to have some nice sausages in the freezer...can you share your recipe, OP?

TheQueef · 12/06/2021 07:44

I'd freeze it.
Surely most bacteria will be killed freezing and reheating.

Admittedly my guts can take most things Smile

It's the Fay Ripley one, it's v delicious . From her first cook book.

We ate half of it last night so I think I'm going to put the rest in my Bokashi and pretend that the compost it will turn into will make up for its loss.

A couple of years ago I had horrid food poisoning from chickpeas of all things, so it's the beans in it I'm most worried about!

I do normally keep things after leaving them out but it was a bit warm in my kitchen last night, it's boiling in here now.

I would eat it but just reheat it to a million degrees first. Grin

olivethegreat · 12/06/2021 08:17

My usual approach is freeze then nuke in the microwave I have to admit

I don't know how to remember to put food away when I leave it cooling. I do this all the time. I'm a very organised person and i can't understand why I do this. I literally jumped up and down in frustration when I saw it looking at me this morning .

@olivethegreat He will if it has been cooked specifically, quickly chilled then frozen (although not reheated rice under any circumstances) but not put in the fridge after being out on the table for serving from - heaven forbid left out on the side.
As a public health inspector he dealt with so many food poisoning cases from left over food, it has made him ultra- cautious.
Me - really not cautious!
