Eating out in Fowey Cornwall

My sister and her family are off to Fowey Cornwall next Month along with the rest of the UK I think and we were talking before about how they will probably need to start booking places to eat out now because of the crowds! She hasn't been before so doesn't know were to start looking.
Has anyone got any recommendations for any nice places to eat . They have a ten year old and seven year old x

Havener’s and The Ship Inn in Fowey itself, Sam’s on the Beach at Polkerris

LittleBearPad · 11/06/2021 17:08

Sam’s on the Beach is lovely. You definitely have to book. Sam’s in Fowey was also good but more a diner than Polkerris which is pasta, pizza and fish from memory.

This place looks a bit fancy but we always go here for lunch whenever we're down for a visit. There is a brilliant grassy outdoor eating area with reasonably priced, good food and gorgeous views and it's great for if kids want to run around a bit. We never used to book , but it may be different for covid now.

We live in a different town, but similar, and booking is now essential. For tow reasons really, Cornwall is chocca this year so greater demand and COVID rules still mean fewer tables available.

So book to eat out, or look into takeaway options.

The rashleigh pub is also nice at Polkerris.

Highly recommend the long store and boathouse in Charlestown. In fact, most places in Charlestown. There are some pop ups on the harbour too.

We're going to Dorset end July and lots of places I have called are already booked, get on it! Kind of removes any enjoyable spontaneity though!

Fitzroys & Appletons are nice but posh, North Street Kitchen similar.
For kids I would aim for Sam's or Haveners, or perhaps pubs like Galleon, King of Prussia, Ship etc, or pubs on the other side of the river.
Pinxtos (tapas) & Bufala (pizza) are first come first served so they need to check out when it's quietest.
All the places are good, but yep booking essential.

millymae · 11/06/2021 17:51

I can vouch for all of these
Buffola for pizza
Pintxo for tapas
Sunny Spice for Indian
North street kitchen

Fitzroy
Tell your sister to Google - Fowey being what it is she’ll need deep pockets
If she’s self catering tell her to take the basics with her especially fresh fruit and veg. Last time we were there - admittedly before lockdown - the choice was dire in Fowey itself.
I believe there is a farm shop now somewhere on station road

newnortherner111 · 11/06/2021 18:55

Please whatever you book, turn up. No-shows are harming the hospitality industry greatly. I'd support a deposit if some restaurants started insisting on them.

PeacheyPeach · 11/06/2021 21:12

Aww thanks everyone I will share these with my sister so she can get booking 😂
Would you say they were mostly family friendly x

I'd say they all will be to an extent but Fitzroys & Appletons more formal. My kids don't appreciate the food there so I'm buggered if I'm wasting money on them!
Families I'd go Sam's, pubs, Haveners, Bufala, Pinxtos.
The prices are consistent with other towns & places in Cornwall.

Another one for Sam’s On The Beach at Polkerris.

RomComPhooey · 11/06/2021 22:57

Another vote for Sams on the Beach. You can combine it with a walk to the Daymark on Gribbin Head, if that’s your think.

RomComPhooey · 11/06/2021 22:58

think = thing

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 11/06/2021 22:59

Sams on the beach at Polkerris is family friendly and brilliant.

As a PP said, shop out of town for big food shop, there's not much in town.

Blueberrycreampie · 11/06/2021 23:26

Don't miss the lovely ferry ride to Mevagissy, prices may be a tad cheaper?
