Second hand clothing - sell or donate?

I have several bags of old children’s clothes, too small for my DC’s or they have decided they will never wear them again. I have tried before selling clothes and other things such as curtains (in good condition) online on local sites so that people are more likely to collect. However I’ve never had much luck and not sure what I’m doing wrong. I’d be interested to know other people’s experiences selling second hand goods and is it really worth all the hassle or do I just simply take it all to a charity shop? Most of it is high street labels not designer.

I’d donate it. Selling is more trouble than it’s worth.

I find with children’s clothes there isn’t really a second hand market unless they are sought after brands (Baby Boden, Joules, JoJo Maman, Cath Kidston etc)

Stuff like M&S, H&M, Next etc probably won’t sell well, unless you offer a large bundle in good condition for a cheap price.

I tend to pass stuff on to friends or give to charity, save for a few items that I consider worth selling eg on the Facebook Loved Labels page or something

I find toys sell, also mostly household bits if priced well but clothes seem hard to shift. Even in cheap bundles.

I just give them away now.

Thanks for your replies, I feel like I should make some sort of effort to make a bit of money from them (I’m not rolling in cash) but at the same time life is so busy and it seems such a faff for probably not very much return.

Sell if you can be arsed to price it really low and deal with hundreds of pick ups or price low and sell as a bundle.

If the hassle is too much to be worth it, charity shop it.

I find it better to sell in small groups of people I know fairly well rather than on big groups to randoms, or individual items on Vinted, but that really is hassle as every single item tends to go individually. I don't mind as it makes a bit of money over time, but if you don't consider £1-2 per item to be worth it then don't bother.

You can sometimes sell to 'cash for clothes' type places who might give you something like 50 p a kilo. Far easier than selling on FB etc, which only really works for bundles of designer brands, or maybe Next or similar, which is hit and miss, as you've discovered.

I learnt a lesson when I tried selling loads of my son's baby clothes. I spent ages ironing it, putting it in bags so it looked tidy. Did a car boot and didn't sell one bit. Facebook was a fail too. I just give everything to charity now, it's just not worth it.

I would donate. So many families really need clothes for their children. Baby banks often advertise on their facebook when they need clothes for older children. They support the whole family, including household goods. It's an eye opener.

I couldn't be bothered with selling anyway. I know people who do and sometimes when someone wants to buy they're demanding the seller to give more clothes for the same price.
