Does home gym equipment ever get used?

We are thinking of turning a spare room into a home gym, but I'm worried it will just gather dust. Does anyone use theirs?

@Panticus I used to use a cross trainer in my gym days many moons ago. But that was before I had back issues. I have arthritis in my lower back and one disk all but gone. I definitely couldn't use a rowing machine and running hurts my back, but I walk for miles every day. Maybe a trial day at a gym to check out whether a cross trainer would hurt or not.

DH used to go to the gym almost every day,, but since moving to France hasn't been. There were none in our local town 20 years ago and we had neither time nor money nor space for our own kit.
