Who at H&M kids gave the green light to this?!

Looking for summer clothes for nursery and running around in the garden with my 17 mo DD, I found this fake leather mini skater skirt complete with chunky metal zip today in H&M available from 18 months to 10 years.

I asked to speak to the manager who gave me their Head Office number, which I will definitely be calling. Who the fuck thought this was a good idea?

It made me feel sad and angry to see this- childhood is so short and our girls deserve better. How can any kid run and climb and play in this? Why would you want to dress your toddler like she's about to go on a night out? It would be so easy for delicate toddler skin to be caught in this zip Sad

I'm looking forward to hearing their justification for selling this. I know there must be a market for it but blimey, can't we let our kids enjoy their childhoods in fun and appropriate clothes that aren't restricting and adult?

It's just another example of the sexualisation of girls, beginning in their babyhood. It's so sad Sad I seem to remember Mumsnet running/promoting a campaign years ago about this issue, holding retailers to account- does anyone know if it's still going?

Who at H&M kids gave the green light to this?!

Be good for potty training though Grin

FuckUcuntychops · 10/06/2021 17:57

Meh I don’t think it looks sexual, not my cup of tea but I wouldn’t bat an eyelid if I saw a toddler wearing it.

MeadowHay · 10/06/2021 18:02

That's the kind of skirt I like to wear in my late 20s on a night out. I agree completely that I wouldn't want my little girl wearing that Confused. However based off previous similar threads I'm sure you will get a lot of posters claiming they can't see any issue with it who I guess are the people buying these things in the first place.

If it doesn't sell they'll stop stocking it....

Grellbunt · 10/06/2021 18:05

It's ironic when so many far less dangerous things are marked as "Not suitable for under 36 months" ... totally agree with you.

copperpotsalot · 10/06/2021 18:07

I wouldn't trust an H&M quality zip with a toddler. You'd have to take it off for naps as too much chance they'd rip the zip off and choke on it. As for the style though, each to their own

Agree. Hideous and inappropriate.

AddisonMontgomeryShepherd · 10/06/2021 18:11

@Whingey what a horrible thing to say! I have reported that Angry

And that extends to grown women as well as "tots", I've never seen anyone dressed like 'a tart' - stop policing womens clothing.

copperpotsalot · 10/06/2021 18:14

Was just about to mention "what I was wearing"

sex offenders are opportunistic, they don't pick the little girls dressed as "tarts"

COL1N · 10/06/2021 18:17

What a horrible comment!

COL1N · 10/06/2021 18:17

I totally agree with you on the skirt OP- horrible anyway & hugely inappropriate

I would not dress a child in that, and I'd give a long hard stare to anyone who did.

Thatswatshesaid · 10/06/2021 18:22

Horrible impractical clothes.
Calling anyone a tart let alone a ‘tot’ is disgusting

purplecorkheart · 10/06/2021 18:24

Vile in my opinion but sadly I suspect they do not stock it unless it will sell.

HarrisMcCoo · 10/06/2021 18:26

Only have sons but I agree what a hideous looking skirt.

BlusteryLake · 10/06/2021 18:27

There are lots of clothes around that I would never have bought for my children when they were small. I would definitely have avoided this one, but I don't find it any worse than crop tops and bikinis for six year olds, for example, in terms of my feeling offended at its sale. Personally, I don't like any of those things so just wouldn't buy them.

Planty13 · 10/06/2021 18:27

I think it’s cute 😂 but not all that practical. But I’d say that for most skirts and dresses for toddlers.

MightNeedABiggerGlass · 10/06/2021 18:27

I thought this was going to be a thread about Harry & Meghan and wondered what they'd been up to now Grin

HelenHywater · 10/06/2021 18:27

@onceabitch

I think kids clothing lately is very very slutty ! Best way to put it and I'd never be seen dead in this kind of stuff let alone my kids !
Slutty?!

Horrible skirt

Hallyup6 · 10/06/2021 18:32

My 13 year old has something similar because she wound her grandma around her little finger, but as I was putting it away in her wardrobe after washing it, I couldn't help but feel she was too young for it. That photo is incredibly disturbing though. 18 months? The parent that buys that needs a social worker on their case.

Herecomesanothernamechange · 10/06/2021 18:35

It’s awful but not quite as bad as when Tesco sold a kids pole dancing pole -complete with sexy garter and dvd!

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-412195/Tesco-condemned-selling-pole-dancing-toy.html

It was hastily pulled but I did hear a parent asking for one at customer service. When she was told it had been withdrawn she actually asked why? Err, because it’s hugely inappropriate!!
