Are you simply just rich or are there some tricks and tips I am missing?

I was SUCH a points whore

Hahahaha me too! And btw I am so annoyed that Tesco Clubcard have stopped doing air miles.

My past employer had a rule that trips over six hours had to have a minimum amount of leg room.

So that was Air Canada normal class, or British Airways Club class.

And I have always had champagne on board as soon as everyone is seated. Before takeoff.
In addition I've always had fast track security and first boarding.
Unless they have changed it within the last 15 months...

Not forgetting the chauffeured car to the aircraft when flying first. I can’t wait to fly again!!

I don’t care so much about champagne but this:
fast track security and first boarding makes such a difference to travelling long haul.

I fly business class regularly (well pre-covid). I used to book far in advance, use air miles and take advantage of sales. I once flew BA First for just £1,990 to California in July!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 12/06/2021 19:10

My Dsis coming from the US on BA premium economy, was regularly bumped to business class, even when she had a young dd with her. IMO it was because she always looked and sounded very goody-two-shoes (I mean that in the nicest possible way) and so the least likely person to get pissed or give the cabin crew or other passengers any grief. So if they had to bump someone, because of overbooking….

Lots of air miles, and lots of money.

ShanghaiDiva · 12/06/2021 19:14

Expats with an annual travel allowance.

Dreamer2468 · 12/06/2021 19:28

A combination of BA airmiles from work and a companion voucher from AA credit card.

Well. Having flown Club Europe 5 times (6 next week) in the last 2 months. I was boarded last this week (as was at the front of the plane and Covid says board the front last) and I have never been given an alcoholic drink on board before the seatbelt signs were turned off. Club World, sure. Club Europe, no. Maybe you’re going to Istanbul - flights to Frankfurt, Jersey or Stockholm you don’t get so much as a peanut til the plane is up in the air. And the seats are the same size as economy as depending on where the curtain is, the entire plane can be economy. No one COULD try to sit between two people in Club Europe as they have a board / tray thing in the way. You could be a toddler and not fit. There is no seat there. They put a slider thing over for you to put your drink or kindle on. No space for a human. That’s the point! They charge peanuts for a mediocre flight with no extra space and hope you don’t drink enough screwtop Nicolas Feuillatte (after take off) to make it “worth it”.

The only time I've flown first class was an incredibly early flight to Germany. They upgraded my DS and I once we were seated because the plane was so empty. My DF said it was to save taking sandbags on. I'm not sure what difference little me and a 6 year old made! But those seats oh my!
