Weddings likely to be given unlimited numbers on 21st June, even if full lifting is extended

It's been reported in several papers this morning, but here is the Mirror article.

So pleased about this! I've actually postponed my wedding until next summer but it's such good news for anyone who is panicking about late June/July/August weddings.

On the downside, looks like there will still need to be masks and social distancing, so no dancefloors etc. But at least you hopefully can have your full guest lists!

I hope it's "weddings and other similar events/receptions" otherwise all the graduation events we have planned for both this year's leavers, as well as last year's leavers who missed their own so are coming back, will be cancelled and it will be doubly disappointing.

I don't understand how if you can have unlimited guests at a wedding you can't have them at a school graduation speech day, garden party, summer ball etc. We have caterers booked, marquees, outdoor entertainment...if weddings can go ahead with unlimited numbers but we have to cancel it will feel completely unfair!

Son’s postponed wedding is booked for first week of July.

Social distancing? No dancing? That’s silly - just say no weddings then.

If the government say you can have a wedding like that, however miserable and stilted, the venue are under no obligation to allow you to re-schedule if you’d prefer to wait. So you have to pay for a wedding that’s not at all the event you planned and that they’re charging for

Agree, why should weddings be prioritised? They aren't anymore special that other than types of occasions.

Typical Tory middle class church event bias.

I don't understand the logic here. Surely if it's safe to have unlimited guests at a wedding it's also safe to have unlimited numbers at a birthday, graduation, concert, party or any other event?

It's not realistic to think people will socially distance so they are either saying it's safe for large groups to meet or it isn't.

The Times reported it as weddings and similar events like Bar Mitzvahs and christenings.

Whether that includes graduation events who knows. Or, as usual, they'll issue the guidance, it won't include things like that as noone will have thought of it and there will be the usual scramble to confirm before final payments are due.
