School preschool- silly question

Motherofmonsters · 10/06/2021 06:57

My DD is born in October so would she start a school preschool when she turns 3 in the October or does she wait until the year after so she would only 3 for a little bit.

You get funding for the term after the turn 3 but I don't know if that means she starts? DS was a July baby so he just started in sept after his birthday

It depends. My eldest is an end of September birthday, but was in a private nursery with a pre-school room.

She moved up at the beginning of September, but I didn’t get her funded hours until January.

If we were looking at school nursery, I’d imagine they wouldn’t take her until January as they wouldn’t be getting paid, assuming of course they had a space. Sometimes the classes get filled up with the September intake and there’s no space left for Christmas /Easter depending on the demographic.

It depends on both you and the preschool; my DD turned 3 in may so didn’t get funding until September but the ore school took children from 2 and I started her earlier and paid as I worked and wanted her to have the pre school experience from when she was 3.

She would start in the January, which is the term after she turns three?

She'd be funded from January (unless you quality for two year old funding). Depending on the pre-school's policy and if you can/want to pay she might be able to start in September with you paying for the first term.

(In England anyway)

January

Keepingitreal14 · 10/06/2021 07:06

Funding starts January, if it’s a private preschool you can start then. If it’s attached to a school you need to check their in takes, some have January intakes, others will make you way until the following Sept.

Our preschool accepts them the term they turn 3, but you'd have to pay until you get the funding. You have to check with the school. it'll likely say on their website.

reluctantbrit · 10/06/2021 07:45

You need to check with the preschools. Some only take them from the term funding kicks in, others take them earlier if you pay for the place.

Deadleaf29 · 10/06/2021 07:55

Check with the school or preschool- that’s not a silly question, it will be different for each setting. My children attended three preschool settings between them and would have given you three different answers! (From her third birthday if you pay until she’s funded, from January and from the following September as they only did one intake a year.)

Ilovemaisie · 10/06/2021 08:26

She would be entitled to 15 hours from the January term but most school based nursery classes only do a September intake so if you want her to go to a school based one you will have to wait.
But if you want to claim those 15 hours you can send her to a non school based setting.

StopTheSwim · 10/06/2021 09:15

DDs primary school take them from the first working day after their 3rd birthday (not their actual birthday) but you pay £10ish a day until the funded hours kick in.

Depends on the preschool and how many spaces I suspect.
I had an winter birthday who started in September when they were still 2. one who started aged 3yo just after October half term, and a summer baby who started the following September so only got one year of preschool.

Onceuponatime1818 · 10/06/2021 09:25

My son is Oct bday and started in the sept before he was 3, but we didn’t get the free hours until the Jan
