Can’t you do that online/via the app/over the phone?

callmemaybee · 09/06/2021 00:23

Alternatively just ask for the card to be delivered to the branch for collection

Awayfortheweekend68 · 09/06/2021 00:25

No you have to go into the brach unfortunately.

That’s weird. Which bank is this?

Realistically the bank will attempt to verify your identity via other means, eg asking high level questions about your account or personal information that they have access to from shared sources (to protect customers against fraud)

If you’re a genuine person with no fraudulent intent, you’ll be fine.

how come you've got no ID, no lease/ rental agreement, bills, council tax bill, DWP letter, anything health related..

Elouera · 09/06/2021 00:44

What ID did you use to get the card in the 1st place? If you don't have other credit cards, what about passport (some accept an expired one), drivers license, utility bills, print off previous bank statements, birth certificate, marriage certificate etc???

Send a letter to the branch your account is based at, they might have a copy of your signature on file to compare it to.

Or just phone them and they will do security questions to pass ID.

Or do it on online banking.

Can you still use the card for chip and pin? If so just go into branch, that's the only I'd you'll need.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/06/2021 00:58

So do you need a new address or a new card? Or both?

If you need both then take a council tax bill in for your current address (assume that's the new one?), and your bank card. They will update your account.

Then ask for a new card to be posted out.

BarbaraofSeville · 09/06/2021 07:26

Do you still live at the address the bank thinks you do, or have you moved without telling them?

Are you registered for online banking? If the bank still has your current address, you should be able to ask for a new card to be posted to the address they have on file for you online or in the app.

Or you could open a Starling or Monzo account and have a card within a few days, but they will need to see your ID.

Why don't you have ID? As you have found, it can be very difficult dealing with banks without it, because they have to operate under very strict conditions to verify the identity of their customers, for prevention of money laundering and other crimes.
