I've suddenly got a mum tum

It's come out of nowhere, mainly developed over the past 2 weeks, just lower tummy fat.
I look bloated but it's not wind. I wish it was then I could make it go away.
I'm ttc but not yet pregnant.
The only thing I can think of it's I've changed jobs and I'm not doing as many steps in my new job. I'm also doing more night shifts.

Is this an inevitable part of aging? (im 36).
How do I get rid of it?

Mine arrived at 35.5. I'm not having any success shifting it. Wine doesn't help!

Mine's just arrived at 41, my youngest is six! It just won't go.

Welcome to the club 😂

Glad I'm not alone.

All those years of being skinny and eating any old crap must have finally caught up with me. Everyone warned me. Not looking so smug now am I?! 😭

I think genetics won't help either. I always remember my grandma was small and slim but had a sticky out tummy. She always looked pregnant/bloated bless her.
She also had no teeth so I'll happily take a mum tum over dentures!

Me too. Especially after eating shed loads on holiday.

Kitchentop · 08/06/2021 21:05

Yep happened to me aged 35

Cutting out carbs helps

fairgame84 · 08/06/2021 21:25

@Kitchentop
But carbs are the best!

I know i need a diet overhaul. I need to psych myself up for it though.

Mine came post second baby - at 33.. Couldn't shift it for ages, not helped by bad eating habits.

I've started seeing positive changes though in the past month. The only way to lose it is by losing overall body fat, there's no way around it I'm afraid. But it is doable for sure!

I love carbs and still eat them. I just try to stay in a mild calorie deficit (though I hate counting them so I just do it instinctively) and no snacking. Once you train yourself to eat slightly less on a regular basis it gets easier.

Good luck xx

Thankyou.

I lost weight a few years ago by calorie counting on mfp and doing weights. I can't do weights anymore due to hiatus hernia but I can definitely calorie count.

You can definitely do it with adjusting your diet alone!

Not saying you shouldn't exercise but the diet itself will make a huge impact xx

Waveafterwaveslowlydrifting · 08/06/2021 21:59

I was so thin aged 17 but thought I was so fat at the time 😭

I'm 37 now and weigh 3 stone extra. I'm going to bodypump and zumba classes at the gym every week plus swimming and treadmill. No alcohol. Small meals. I need to stick to it this time. 😩

fairgame84 · 08/06/2021 22:03

@Waveafterwaveslowlydrifting

Good luck. Getting started is the hardest part. I'm going to think of it as a lifestyle change rather than a diet as a diet just feels temporary.

I wish I could exercise. I can't do cardio because of a heart condition and I can't do weights because of hiatus hernia. Walking and yoga don't feel 'enough'. I might get the bike out.
