Please can you help me not freak out about this?

Oh dear, I am having a panic. A proper one and don't really know why. I have booked a mobile hairdresser to come and do the DC's hair as it is hard to book at a salon and they really want it short now it is getting warmer.

This will be OK won't it? I know it sounds silly but I have totally forgotten what it is like to have strangers in the house, and tbh even before covid I liked my home to be pretty private.

I didn't even get a recommendation, just found someone online. Is this something people do? I am not worried about the haircuts (it couldn't look worse than it does now!), I am worried I have somehow done something really reckless asking a total stranger into the house to do this.

But it is no different than getting the boiler checked which I did the other week, really, is it? Have changed my name as the extent of how panicked I suddenly feel has made me a bit embarrassed.

Seriously, don't panic! It will be fine. I'm sure the hairdresser will only be in your kitchen anyway (assuming that's where haircuts will take place) and be in and out in no time. Take a deep breath!!

CaptainMyCaptain · 08/06/2021 16:33

If you have a garden you could do it outside if you're worried. I'm sure it will be fine anyway.

hairdresserphobic · 08/06/2021 16:40

It isn't covid I am worried about, it is 'what if she is a killer' type fear Blush - what has happened to me?? Maybe it is just post-lockdown paranoia.

If it’s a female then it’s very unlikely she is going to be a violent killer.

Can you look her up online to see if she has some reviews? That might help you feel better.

Aquamarine1029 · 08/06/2021 16:43

Go easy on yourself, truly. This past year has done a real number on a lot of us. Like you, I also keep my home very private, and after lockdown, the feeling has only been magnified. We will calm down eventually, I'm sure!

Hellocatshome · 08/06/2021 16:45

Even if she is a killer, which she isn't, she isn't going to kill people who have booked an appointment with her as it would be too easy to work out who did it.

Cam2020 · 08/06/2021 16:46

This is the kind of things that happens when we've been locked away from other people and have begun to see other people as a danger. You wont be the first or last, OP. Many people will find it difficult to adjust in one way or another.

Like a really easy game of Cleudo. Sorry OP - it will be fine. My friend is a mobile hairdresser and lovely.

I feel so weird.

Do you watch The Walking Dead? Feel like I have made loads of really loud noises and am now waiting anxiously to find out if the walkers are growling their way towards me.

Oh. I too assumed Covid.

No, the chances of a hairdresser killing you all is ridiculously tiny.

You need to talk to someone professional though, as you're having those thoughts

DownWhichOfLate · 08/06/2021 16:55

Leave all your doors and windows open then you can call for help! You’ll be fine.

hairdresserphobic · 08/06/2021 16:58

I'm not averse to talking to professionals when needed but if this wears off in half an hour hopefully I won't need to!

Am already feeling much more normal about it, thanks all.

On the other hand you could find the best hairdresser ever and you need never step in a salon again!

Aquamarine1029 · 08/06/2021 17:10

I'm glad you're feeling better, op. Your post has made me think about people with agoraphobic tendencies, of whom I've thought a lot about over this past year. These poor people already struggle enough, never mind how this past year may have exacerbated their anxieties. It's shit, plain and simple.

I really hope so - for the children primarily as sorting them all out is so timeconsuming!

Yes, in this case I think it was a really strong 'is this how we normally do things' feeling - I do feel a bit like I have forgotten how to make decisions and just do things - everything is very planned so being spontaneous feels alien?

I am sure people took a while to adjust after the war, I know my older relatives were permanently a bit funny about food after rationing.
