Anyone from Manchester - shopping

I had this thread ages ago www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/4185281-Where-would-you-take-teen-for-special-shopping-trip and taking everything into consideration, DD chose Manchester.

We are booked to go next weekend, and I have a couple of days left in which I can still cancel/postpone without a fee.

So, question: it’s clothes shopping she wants. Are the changing rooms open yet? Suddenly thought about it last night - we were down south this weekend and they were all still closed. I don’t think she’ll have half as much fun if she can’t try before she buys.

Anyone been to the Arndale or Trafford Centre in the last week or so?

I’m thinking I might postpone until July.

I was in town over the weekend and from what I saw changing rooms were open. Not sure about the trafford centre.

Go to the Arndale at the weekend and the Trafford Centre later. Then come back for cultural things.

exLtEveDallas · 08/06/2021 07:43

It’s specifically changing rooms I’m concerned about. We’ve got an itinerary for other stuff that she is still excited about but she’s got a couple of hundred £s to spend on clothes that is burning a hole in her pocket and she’s so indecisive that she needs to be able to try on and twirl a bit before she commits!

Hi @exLtEveDallas I've tried on clothes in Next, HM and Uniqlo though I imagine that's not where your daughter will be shopping!

Can you list the types of shops she us interested in, then I'm sure someone with a daughter will know.

I've been in both the Trafford Centre and the Arndale in the last two days. Changing rooms are open everywhere

BarbaraofSeville · 08/06/2021 08:05

In my recent experience (not Manchester) Next was open, M&S was but only 10 til 4, which is ridiculous when the shop opens from 8 til 8.

Sainsburys changing rooms were closed with a strict notice about 'not trying on clothes in the store' so a mixed bag.

It's also worth noting that there was a humongous queue to get into Primark. This was at a large out of town shopping centre where you could pretty much come and go as you pleased, didn't seem that busy but Primark were controlling their own entrances and there was about 100 people waiting to get in.

Good news that places seem to be open Smile

She wants all the High street shops like New Look, Primark, H&M, Next, Quiz, Oasis etc @yoshiblue but also places like superdry/hollister and sports shops.

Thanks so much

Went in Superdry in Manchester Arndale on Saturday and changing rooms were open

After watching the news tonight we’ve decided to postpone to July. DD is gutted, but with local people being asked to consider staying out of the centre, I think we might be pushing it trying to go now. Fingers crossed for Manchester Mners, I hope this is just a precaution to stop any bigger issues.

Well they are saying 'don't go in and out of the area' so it's probably wise.

Where are you? What about Leeds? I think we have all those shops in the Trinity Centre, which also has loads of great restaurants and street food stalls, loads more in the market too. There's also the Corn Exchange for quirky little shops and loads of arcades.

exLtEveDallas · 08/06/2021 21:46

We are West Mids, so not a horrendous drive to Leeds. It’s an option for sure, esp if things don’t improve in Manchester.

Leeds is definitely another option. I'm in Manchester but regularly meet my best friend in Leeds for shopping.

However, Manchester does have the city + Trafford Centre combo, which combined has a few more 'trendy' teen store brands that you won't find solely in Leeds centre I think.

Hoppinggreen · 10/06/2021 10:16

Trafford centre is a bit of a trek from Manchester.
I like both Leeds and Manchester for clothes shopping (teen DD) but Leeds is smaller and more manageable.

yoshiblue · 11/06/2021 15:33

Note, the tram runs out to Trafford Centre now (just need to change at Cornbrook). So if you're staying in the city it's about a 25 min tram ride.
