Hungry baby formula

Hi,

My son was 4 and a half weeks early so we were advised to wake him every 3 hours to feed. He is now 16 weeks old and still feeds every 3 hours, he goes a little longer between feeds through the night sometimes. He currently takes between 3 and 4 ounces, rarely 5 ounces. When he does take the 5 ounces he will go longer before wanting his next feed. I’m wondering whether to put him on hungry baby milk to try and extend the time between feeds but not sure this is what hungry baby formula should be used for? And I don’t want to give him anything that he is going to struggle to digest. Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you Smile

I wouldn't. The hungry baby formula is basically designed to be harder to digest, so it stays in the stomach longer. I personally don't think hungry baby formula should be used for anything. Clearly the manufacturers would disagree with me...

Every 3 hours in the day is great. I'd not be bothered about extending that at all, mine fed roughly the same until after 6mo.

Night feeds were then 11pm and 3am, and we intentionally lifted them at 11pm to feed so they ended up dropping the 3am one first (morning feed became 6am instead of 7am which I could cope with).

No, three hours is great. If he's 16 weeks actual and not adjusted he's still teeny in the grand scheme of things, little and often will be better for him.

Hungry baby formula won't achieve anything.

Oh gosh yes adjusted he is still only 11/12 weeks.

nope.

feed on demand - follow the baby's lead

ignore the "hungry baby" formula - it's bullshit.

if your baby ishungry, feed him

and just think - if your baby was being breastfed, you'd have absolutely no idea how many ounces he was taking - so don't get too focussed on the amount he takes - just be sure that he is producing plenty of wet/dirty nappies and is feeding :)
