Anyone else get pain while driving?

Last week I did a (relatively) long drive from Scotland to Yorkshire. It was about 3 hours.

My hip was really hurting for a lot of the drive and ever since I've been crippled with pain, it really hurts to walk and I have to keep stopping to stretch it.

I am going to see a physio today. it's an ongoing problem but this drive has really made it flare up. I only drive usually about once a week and even then for not more than an hour.

In a couple of weeks I am going to be doing a six hour drive to the north of Scotland and I am now really worried about how it's going to affect my leg.

My car is pretty shit, doesn't have cruise control or anything and I can't afford a new one.

Has anyone experienced this before and has any tips?

Regular breaks are probably your best friend.

How big a car is it? My DD has back problems and we had to help her upgrade to an estate car because her small car had an off centre steering wheel which exacerbated her issues.

The other thing when you do come to change cars would be consider switching to an automatic.

No chance you can go by train/coach instead?

Sit on a cushion?
Adjust seat so your leg is supported and you are not too 'down' onto bottom.
You could stop and alter seat position a bit a few times.
I was told I have bursitis in my hip a couple of years ago and it flares up with long drives.
There doesn't seem to be a cure but painkillers fix it. Though doesn't sound as severe as yours.

It's an oldish polo so quite a small car but I am not particularly tall.

Looked at the train but it's £200! And I have a couple of bikes to take so need the car really.

Cushion is a good shout. I might try that. Plus foam rolling in a lay by every so often Grin

I really think you should try to avoid long drives until your hip is better and then look at changing your car to one that suits your hip plus getting posture support cushions and taking regular breaks.

DD isn't tall either. The problem is that in lots of small cars the steering wheel isn't directly centred on the driver's seat, so that can exacerbate issues if you have to sit slightly squiff.
