Help. C section. Possible infection- any experiences?

I had a c section 4 weeks ago and tonight I felt some pain in the scar, I looked and there is a small section in the middle of the scar that is red and some pus is oozing out of a small gap.

I’ll phone the GP in the morning but please stop me freaking out. Has anyone had something similar? What happened?

I had this, just unacceptable couple of small places on the scar... seemed to be from nearer the skin surface rather than underneath. Mine cleared up on its own, but advice from GP is the way to go.

GP ASAP and get antibiotics.

Nothing unacceptable, sorry... *just in a couple

I had that. I went back to my obgyn and they put some kind of antibiotic ointment on it which I then had to reapply for a few days.

I recently had this, get to GP tomorrow for antibiotics, ask them if it needs swabbing to make sure you're getting the right type. I was worried it would make an absolute mess of my scar as it was so swollen but I'm now 6 weeks post op and it's looking pretty good. It took about 2 weeks for the infection to go.

I stuck maternity pads inside my underwear to absorb the pus when it got bad.

Hope you can get it resolved quickly, its rubbish to have complications on top of a standard section recovery Flowers

Yeah I had an infection and it was only picked up on post op check. This was years ago, mind. Did you get any discharge (no pun intended) papers when you left the hospital, saying what to do if there were problems?

Theweedonkeeey · 07/06/2021 07:11

Thanks everyone. I’ll phone my GP at 8. Good idea to check the discharge papers- thank you!

I had this - bathe it with salt water then pat it dry with a cotton flannel/towel. If you can leave it to air dry afterwards then brilliant.

I had to pop to GP surgery to see the practise nurse, and on a weekend they came to me, to get my wound checked and dressed daily. All sorted itself after about a week.

Yes I had this. It was so painful I couldn’t walk. You need antibiotics, I felt much better within 24 hours of starting them, but still didn’t feel right. Had to have a second course of something stronger. Hope you feel better soon.

I had this, admittedly probably due to doing too much and tearing the stitches on one side. I saw the midwife for my home visit, got antibiotics and then rested LOADS. Literally spent most of the day in bed for a week or so and my mum visited twice a day to bathe it with salt water. Healed up fine with the above and no further intervention required.
