How are they converting them to electronic form?

I just take a photo of the photo!

Hellocatshome · 06/06/2021 23:00

Most just take a photo of a photo, some may scan them in if they have a scanner.

PreservativeFree · 06/06/2021 23:02

Really? The quality seems really good.

I take a photo of the photo too.

frankienotbenny · 06/06/2021 23:04

Yes, it works for me. I would take the photo out of the frame or album first then lie it flat on a table.

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 06/06/2021 23:04

I take a photo with the flash off so there's no glare.

Others scan, my dad did scan all (seven hundred million billion**) photos when I got married as he wanted to do a photo montage with his speech. He now uploads batches every so often.

**slight exaggeration

I'm glad I asked! So simple. Thank you.

I scan them.

OtherPlans · 06/06/2021 23:24

How is everyone scanning them? Is there a quick way? (Think my printer has a scan function, dubious about quality or speed though)

HeavenHotel · 06/06/2021 23:30

otjerplans If you have an IPhone you can scan on the notes app.

BarbaraofSeville · 07/06/2021 05:42

Scanners are pretty much obsolete unless you need to scan more than a handful of documents, or photos. Just take a photo with the smartphone you almost certainly have if you're on FB.

The resolution on screen is far lower than either the original picture or your phone camera, as illustrated by the massive reduction in file size when it's uploaded to FB, so no quality issues when viewing on screen.

CardiganOfDoom · 07/06/2021 05:47

Photoscan by Google photos is great for this. It guides you to take 4 photos, centred on each corner, and then combined them. Makes sure the photo is perfectly rectangular and there aren't any highlights from light from windows etc.

lljkk · 07/06/2021 06:10

I get reflections if I take a picture, or angle isn't good or lighting uneven. Scanners better.

My sister has a photo scanner and it’s really quick. She connects it to her computer and then just puts in each photo and it runs it through like a laminator would do.
OtherPlans · 07/06/2021 11:07

Thanks being I'll look into getting one. I've got so many old photos from previous generations it would be nice to digitize them.

ShitInAPyrexDish · 07/06/2021 11:25

On your iPhone, you can hold down on 'notes' and you can do a scan.
