Heat Intolerance? Really upset/worried. Anyone with advice?

Feeling really low today.

Will start with - I have an under active thyroid so I think maybe that's a cause of it. I'm on Levothyroxine and tomorrow I'll be contacting my GP to see if maybe I need a higher dose or also for other tests.

But.

I've always struggled with the heat. Not a fan and stuck to the shade. But sometimes for the last few years (I can't remember it being an issue much before perhaps 10 years ago) I can have horrible spells. It often seems to be with the sun/heat if it's on my head (which makes sense I know) and I'll get dizzy and overly hot very quickly and have to sit down in the shade ASAP or else I feel I'd faint.

For example last summer a couple of times I took my DC to a theme park alone (we go a lot as it's local and have passes) and I had these "turns" in the queue and had to make them leave and sit with me somewhere. It's very scary when alone.

Due to that and due to the anxiety it caused me, was stopping me going out) my psychiatrist wrote a letter that I showed so I can wait elsewhere when there are longer queues.

Great - I thought.

Until today. We went again. This time with friends. So we took it in turns on bigger rides or with the kids etc.

A friend and I were waiting in the (very short) disabled queue for a ride. But within minutes of standing in the sun I felt so dizzy and unwell. I just had to leave. Couldn't even stay in the very short line.

I make sure to wear a hat. Cool clothing. Drink plenty (and I mean plenty. I had to wee more than anyone else there and my wee is basically clear) it was only 21 degrees. Not like an actual hot summers day.

I'm so worried again now that I can't do things alone with the kids this summer for the fear of something bad happening.

Sorry - that was long!

But have any of you experienced the same? Any advice? I don't know what else I can try to make the sun more bearable for myself.

I can’t say I experience the same but similar. I have bradycardia so I can’t stand in queues for any amount of time whatever the weather. If I’m walking around I’m ok. I stop for a couple of minutes and my ears start ringing, everything goes blurry and bam...I’m out cold. It’s horrible and I really sympathise with you 💐

@Blacksheep99 thanks for the reply.

I'm so sorry you struggle in all weathers. I'm generally ok if it's under 18 degrees as long as I'm not too warmly dressed.

I can't tell if it's the heat or the sun itself. I feel almost like if it had been hot but I'd been in the shade I would be ok.

Just feel so disheartened. I eat well. Exercise. Am only early 30s.

Yet can't stand for 5 minutes on a nice sunny (but not too hot) day.

We wanted to take the kids to Florida soon. Thought fills me with dread now.

I just googled bradycardia as hasn't heard of it.

How difficult for you. Xxx

I was a bit disappointed in that I hadn't used the disability lines before and maybe wrongly assumed they may have built them with things like shade, or maybe ledges for people to sit/perch on in mind.

As I'm not disabled and yet I found a couple of the waiting areas very unpleasant. So for folks in serious pain or children with difficulty waiting maybe some coolness or a place to rest would make sense?

Could it be POTS? I think I've read that the sun makes it worse. It does sound like low blood pressure to me.

I cannot cope in the sun and mostly avoid it.
