Eczema on feet

WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld · 06/06/2021 14:00

I've had eczema on my feet for years. It comes and goes and is worse in hot weather. I have strong steroid ointment which helps but the itch is terrible
Can anyone recommend a non steroid cream that may help

If it is on the soles of your feet it could be an allergic reaction to the glue that holds your shoes together. Mine was.

WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld · 06/06/2021 14:27

It's not just the soles it's also around the heel
I have had tests and am allergic to the dye used in the tanning process
I have shoes that don't trigger the eczema but still get it when it's hot

It's mainly on one foot too so I don't think it's the allergy that triggers it. I rarely get any on my R foot

Have your tried Flexitol or Heel Balm to help with healing the skin? Its 10% urea cream.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 06/06/2021 14:34

Are you sure it is eczema? I see a lot of patients in my footcare clinic with fungal infections like athletes foot, and what you described would be exacerbated by the warm weather. Do not apply flexitol heel balm, as if it is a fungal disorder this will make it worse! Sounds like moccasin athletes foot to me.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 06/06/2021 14:37

Pm me if you need any more advice.

MegCleary · 06/06/2021 14:39

@WowIlikereallyhateyou ooh jumping in for help. Between my toes are split and macerated and the itch, oh the itch. I have to talk to myself to not itch it when I dry them after my shower. Does that sound like athletes foot?

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 06/06/2021 14:42

Meg yes it does.

MegCleary · 06/06/2021 14:57

Hmm whether to bother the practice nurse or just try some over the counter remedy?

MegCleary · 06/06/2021 14:58

@WowIlikereallyhateyou thank you for replying

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 06/06/2021 15:51

Meg, Lamisil once is best.

ihearttc · 06/06/2021 16:11

I bet it’s Pomphlox (probably spelt wrong). I have it as well and also on my hands. Unless you’ve ever experienced it it’s impossible to understand just how incredibly itchy it actually is.

Germolenequeen · 06/06/2021 16:32

Agree with this - chronic sufferer myself - Germolene helps me the most

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/06/2021 16:33

Have you tried Doublebase gel on it?. It’s less prescribed than other emollients but very effective.

My dn eczema always flared up at this time of year like clockwork.

Bathshebahardy · 06/06/2021 16:37

If it gets worse when you are stressed it is probably pomphylox. Do you also get it on your hands? Pomohylox is a specific type of excema which affects hands and feet and flares when under stress. Getting hot makes it worse.
I used very strong steroid cream from Dermatology, not GP with emulsifier several times daily.
It does make you prone to fungal infections as well. I was prescribed Betnovate NN to deal with both fungal and excema, but am allergic to it so made it worse!

WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld · 06/06/2021 20:46

Yes it is Pomohylox. I've looked at pictures and it looks the same. Either blisters under the skin or on top. I've seen it called bubbly eczema

Northernsoullover · 06/06/2021 20:47

I've got that too! It's a bugger to get rid of.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 06/06/2021 20:54

If its dishydrotic eczema (pomohylox)- I had this for years on my hand. Things that helped- 10% urea cream like hydromol intensive and a few others applied every 15 mins during a flareup, Body Shop Hemp cream is also good, an antihistamine tablet to help with worst of itching, following a low histamine diet- these just about got it under control.

Last year I started an immunosuppressant for a totally random unrelated condition that happens to be controlled by taking low dose immunosuppressants, and I have not had a single bit of eczema- first time in years. Every cloud and all that.

Germolenequeen · 07/06/2021 00:14

I have this chronically & I find Germolene gives the best relief - steroid creams have thinned my skin too much to use now 😞

MegCleary · 20/06/2021 21:09

Lamisil worked a treat thanks
