What time is ok to chuck your glass bottles in the recycling on a weekend?

Let’s pretend you have half a dozen or so glass bottles. You are the kind of person who chucks them in the bin with force, one by one, so they clink together really loudly.

It’s Saturday/Sunday morning. You live in a terraced house.

What time is it acceptable to start the chucking?

After midday. I'm trying to decide if you're the complainer or not. I suspect you're the twat that's doing it at 9am

Hughbert · 06/06/2021 01:38

If you are my neighbours, the ideal time is 2am or 6.30am. I place mine in gently at 3pm so noone knows I am putting yet another bottle in the box.

That made me smile.

My neighbour is the twat but I’m just trying to work out if my expectations are unreasonable.

My neighbour wakes my ds up when he throws his bottles in the bin. He gets a ladder, climbs on the roof and chucks it as hard as he can! To make the loudest noise possible at 9pm at least 3 times a fuckin week!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 06/06/2021 01:39

after 10 am

Bargebill19 · 06/06/2021 02:19

Once a fortnight, night before the bin is collected. They are nicely cushioned then.

Boomisshiss · 06/06/2021 02:22

9am is fine

ElizabethTudor · 06/06/2021 02:29

9am is fine
Christ no. They make a bloody racket and if people are trying to have a lie in, then no chance. PP said after 12. I think that is more courteous to neighbours if you’re in a terrace.
Billandben444 · 06/06/2021 06:38

Early evening

Mrbob · 06/06/2021 06:41

9am probably. Or early evening. Night shift workers have enough misery at the weekend with all the mowing without being woken up at midday by smashing bottles too. But it is possible to not do it in a very loud way!

traumatisednoodle · 06/06/2021 06:50

I think anytime between 9-7 is fair game, maybe 10-6 on a sunday.

OhSayWhat · 06/06/2021 06:54

This.

My neighbour does it at 7am and they don’t work (or leave the house really) so can dump them at any time. Confused

itsmellslikepopcarn · 06/06/2021 06:54

Weekends I usually try to keep it until 10-11am before I make any noise, including bin emptying, mowing the lawn etc.

Wish I could say the same for my neighbours who seem to think it's alright to drag their bins out to the front of their house and deal with their recycling at 11pm.

1n5piration · 06/06/2021 06:54

The recycling station in our village has time limits on it. 700am-7pm mon-Fri, 7-5 Sat and not allowed Sundays or bank holidays.

If it’s a private bin, I don’t think there are any restrictions but I think those hours are fine if you’re doing something noisy.

PersonaNonGarter · 06/06/2021 06:57

Fucking hell 9am is absolutely fine.

Confused I can’t really tell if there are posters on here who genuinely believe that there neighbours should clean out their own kitchens on weekend mornings?

PersonaNonGarter · 06/06/2021 06:58

*shouldn’t clean their kitchens

daisypond · 06/06/2021 06:58

From 9am.

freedomontheway · 06/06/2021 07:03

I like to think I'm a considerate neighbour
This post has left me concerned though that if I have a bottle to put in the recycling I do it at anytime I'm up. That could be 6 am on a Sunday morning. However I drop it in as quietly as possible because any fool knows throwing a bottle with force will make a loud noise.
I don't think my student neighbours would dare complain after partying until 5am ( they're usually lovely so I'm not moaning just a bit tired after their parties all week!)

Foxhasbigsocks · 06/06/2021 07:06

9 am on sat, 10 am on Sunday

My otherwise lovely neighbour does this late at night!

3Britnee · 06/06/2021 07:07

No noise, whatever it is, before 10am on a weekend or bank holiday etc imo.

nordica · 06/06/2021 07:10

No reason to do it until after 10am really.

There's someone on my street who brings their wheelie bins back into their garden in the early hours, usually around 1:30am. Terraced street and the sound really echoes around when it's otherwise quiet.

PersonaNonGarter · 06/06/2021 07:13

@nordica No reason to do it until after 10am really.

Yeah, plenty of reasons. It’s my weekend, I get up, tidy my house and get on with my day. 9am is absolutely fine. That’s the functioning day and no one needs to be restricted by someone else’s hangover two doors down.

WTF entitlement is on this thread.

user1471538283 · 06/06/2021 07:29

I dont think it is about the time, it is a about doing it quietly. I carefully put our stuff in the recycling bin because I dont want our neighbours to know my business (or i theirs). If it has to be loud 9am is ok but then I'm up early.

BeenAsFarAsMercyAndGrand · 06/06/2021 07:30

@3Britnee

This is a batshit crazy expectation.

Newsflash to all you complainers - not everyone spends weekends mornings in bed. Some work night shifts, or early morning / late evening shifts. Many will be planning to actually do things with their Sunday, and will therefore be up and about, possibly starting cars and the like, a lot earlier than the people who just want to lounge around.

You cannot possibly expect people to timetable their lives according to the hours you like to keep.

Considerate neighbours put out recycling as quickly and as quietly as possible, but otherwise it's all fair game.

Your 10am could be their "just trying to sleep after my night shift" time. Your 2pm could be their "trying to get my baby to nap" time.

Any time is glass chucking time!
