Desperately need help getting a stain out! (Pic)

I'm so annoyed with myself! It's a new jumper and one I absolutely love. Somehow I managed to spill red wine on it but didn't notice until it had been in the laundry basket for a couple of days. I treated it with Vanish for clothes and washed it according to instructions but it hasn't shifted 😫

Does anyone have any magic ways of getting red wine out of clothes or will I have to sacrifice my lovely jumper??

I’ve heard white wine removes red wine but not sure if it has to be treated straight away, worth a try

CatChant · 05/06/2021 16:08

Dampen the stain with cold water and hang it in direct sunshine. Keep going back to dampen it.

Works on tomato stains, ink stains and stained cloth nappies so worth a try with red wine.

Put washing up liquid on it (Fairy works best but other brands will do) then sprinkle the vanish over that. Leave it on for at least 90 mins then rinse

I managed to get rid of red wine stains, a large glass, from a white cotton shirt with some lace appliqué. I soaked it in cold water and then soaked over night in cold water and fairy non-bio. Next day gave it a rub and most of the stain came out. Finished it off in a cold wash with fairy non-bio and it came out like new. I couldn't believe it.

Baking soda and water, let it dry then hoover it off.

Sunlight is always my answer to this stuff.

I got ink stains all over my white work tunics. Someone said soak it in milk overnight and then wash with a dishwasher tablet...I was skeptical but it worked!

Horsemad · 05/06/2021 20:33

Vanish soap bar and a toothbrush might do it.

Skyla2005 · 05/06/2021 20:35

Wash in the machine then peg out in the hot sunshine it really fades Staines

G3ntlemanJ · 05/06/2021 22:29

Thanks everyone. I actually already tried the sunlight thing Sad

Right, I'm going to work my way through these suggestions. At this point I can't make it any worse!!

I think with the sunlight thing, it will work, but it takes a while (ie it might take several days, even weeks, of being in direct sunlight) for the stain to come out.

Oh really?? I only left it for a few hours. I've got tomato stains out that way before. Seeing as I'm in the UK, I highly doubt that I'll get several hours of sunshine all at once Sad

Wete away at the moment so I can't check but I have a small aerosol spray of stain remover made by Dr Beckmann (or similar name, can't quite remember) - you can buy it in larger supermarkets.

It's amazing for getting stains out of everything. We used it for red wine on a carpet

SmellyBottomHead · 06/06/2021 09:58

Cold water, salt & keep dabbing

ProudPolyGradSingleMum · 06/06/2021 10:00

Soak it in ace bleach or vanish (I prefer ace bleach for wine) overnight then wash a long wash with ore wash with Mega doses of Ariel powder and vanish gold. Hang in the sun and hope!

ProudPolyGradSingleMum · 06/06/2021 10:00

Prewash

Thornrose · 06/06/2021 10:02

I recently ran out of stain remover for clothes and used carpet stain remover and it worked!

It was a curry stain though, not red wine.

SirVixofVixHall · 06/06/2021 10:05

OP what is the jumper made of ?

Arcadia · 06/06/2021 11:16

I use the vanish bar on wetted fabric then put in wash

dudsville · 06/06/2021 11:19

What's the fabric content?

We managed to get a yellow sun cream stain out if a white cotton T-shirt by hanging it in the window of sunny room and kept it there for several weeks (luckily our spare room is also sunny, so it wasn't too annoying it being there!)

And then on particularly sunny days, if we remembered, we'd peg it on the washing line.

It's not completely out (I know sun cream stains are a real pain to remove) but it really isn't noticeable any more unless you know where to look and it has saved a favourite T-shirt.

MrsClatterbuck · 06/06/2021 14:01

I have used this for beetroot and tomato stains. I pour Vanish platinum gel over the stain and leave for 30 mins then wash appropriate to the material. I also put some Vanish powder in the wash along with whatever detergent I'm using. My machine has a timer so it's easy to just set it for 30 mins and once they are up it automatically goes into the wash cycle.
