You could always buy a travel cot?

Chances are they'll be in the massively uncomfortable double bed with you anyhow.

FortunesFave · 05/06/2021 15:41

He'll be fine! Just put a lot of cushions on the floor. Mine both slept in beds at that age.

Bed guard or travel cot

If the site hires bed guards there should be a fitting screwed into the bed itself, which you then put the bed guard into. The bed is then like a cot. If they don't mention a bed guard it's likely the bed won't have the fitting.

Pool noodle under the sheet, blanket on the floor.

Kate3150 · 05/06/2021 15:43

He doesn’t sleep in travel cots well at all. Even though I’m nervous I think we stand a better chance him in the single bed.
Bed guards just don’t look very tall, I’m so worried he’ll just topple out x

Mine were both in beds at that age any way but with guards. I did have a bedding set where the duvet cover zipped onto the bottom sheet and kept them in a bit, I used to take that away on holidays

Aprilwasverywet · 05/06/2021 15:44

Take a screwdriver and a travel cot. The mattress frame is just balanced on a bit of timber!! Replace bed with cot!!
Ime!

Fresh01 · 05/06/2021 15:47

Is it a one off holiday or your own caravan? Is it a static or touring caravan? We had a static caravan so we removed the single bed frame that wasn’t built in and put it in the shed. Mattress was put under our bed. Then we had the slender Phil and Teds travel cot in its place. We put the foam mats under the travel cot as the caravan floors aren’t well insulated.

Between two and two and a half we started using the single bed with the long bed guard rail. It worked well as caravan beds are skinnier than single beds. All of my kids had climbed out of cots by 2.5 years old so were using a toddler bed at home as well.

Whether they would stay in the bed with just a side rail at 18 months or just climb out would depend on the child. One of mine would have stayed in it, the other 3 no chance.

Kate3150 · 05/06/2021 15:52

Thanks for all the suggestions.

It’s just a one off trip for a few nights in a static van. It’s actually more like a mobile home.

I know he won’t sleep perfectly as we’re away but I would like to give him the best chance possible so we can try and have an enjoyable few days. I’m so stressed about it x

I used to wrap the duvet around the mattress at that age iykwim.
Kids are so small that their feet never poked out of the bottom!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 05/06/2021 16:06

Alternatively you and dh take the two singles and put the baby in the middle of the double bed so they are less likely to roll out

Bagelsandbrie · 05/06/2021 16:11

When ds was tiny we used to push the two singles together to make a double.

kowari · 05/06/2021 16:40

Surely he won't topple out unless he tries to climb over the bed guard rather than just getting out through the gap? You only need something to stop him rolling out accidentally. Assume he can turn around and slide off a bed feet first?

Fresh01 · 05/06/2021 16:57

Take an extra blanket and tape to put over the window. Caravan curtains never keep a room very dark.

Nohomemadecandles · 05/06/2021 17:03

You can't topple OVER a bed guard when you're lying down. Unless he's a baby Hagrid!

Might climb out of the bottom though. Don't stress. It will be fine!

Worriesome · 05/06/2021 17:10

Could you take him into the double bed in the main bedroom?

Kate3150 · 05/06/2021 17:18

Thanks guys for all your wonderful suggestions and assurances. I’m sure it will be fine.
Me and my Husband were talking about how years ago they didn’t have all these safety products available and they managed just fine.
I think in my head he’s still this precious little newborn 😂. I can’t imagine him sleeping in a bed! X

Bed guards are brilliant. Never tried to climb over them etc.

FrumpyBetty · 05/06/2021 17:40

Put the single mattress on the floor

Aprilwasverywet · 05/06/2021 17:58

Ime toddlers +holidays =walk the little legs off them =sleeps all night...

Kottbullar · 05/06/2021 18:02

My eldest slept in a single bed from 14 months at her own insistence. She did slide out a couple of times but stayed asleep on the floor!

Kate3150 · 05/06/2021 18:11

I’ve got the pheonix bed guard. The reviews are overall pretty good so I’m hoping that will do that job.
I might be pleasantly surprised and he absolutely love it 🙄 ha ha.
Because he hasn’t slept in a bed before I just can’t envisage how it will all work but I’m sure we’ll make it work x
