Confess something weird you did as a child, that you don't know why.

Inspired by the secret thread, which reminded me of this.

When I was about five I drew a house in biro on my parents' single piece of antique furniture. I have no idea why I did this. I was generally an extremely obedient, rule-abiding child, the sort that got nervous when other children were acting out. I was just suddenly overcome with an irresistble urge to draw the house. I still remember the feeling, and I don't know why I did it.

Did you ever do something inexplicable and out of character, that you still don't understand?

Stood on my radiator to see out of the window, it buckled and was lying flat on the floor. I legged it back to bed and my dad ran in. I said it just did that on its own Hmm I was 6 or 7?

PassMeTheWotsits · 05/06/2021 21:08

Cut the cats whiskers off. Only on one side

ComtesseDeSpair · 05/06/2021 21:10

I used my dad’s aerosol deodorant like spray paint to write “SEX!” on the inside of the bathroom door - then panicked when I couldn’t wipe it off.

enjoyingscience · 05/06/2021 21:13

Oh god, tongue shaving has given me the willies. Ouch.

I remember pretending to be asleep a lot, so if my mam came into the room I’d pretend to be napping, or still asleep in the morning or whatever. No idea why, but I must have been 6 or 7? I don’t think I was a very good actress, so not sure I really sold it very well.

@FlappityFlippers1

I stuck a tiny bead up my nose to see what would happen if I sniffed up 😂 it shot right up there and it took ages to get it out!
Same!!!!! I pushed it too far up and had to go to hospital to get it removed with huge tweezers lol I did it at nursery and kept it a secret until I got home and when asked how it happened I blamed a little boy called Daniel Confused
insertrandomusernamehere · 05/06/2021 21:18

Threw my mums friends entire load of washing into the canal that ran past her house. I was bored.

Cocolapew · 05/06/2021 21:19

I used to pull the candlewick bedspread to pieces. I pulled a little bit every night and ate it.
I sometimes got out of bed and peed in the bin. Then I'd have to try to sneak it into the toilet the next morning.
We once had a house with a downstairs toilet. I decided to climb out the window one day and went off to play. When I got home I had to try to explain why the door was locked from the inside.

I have adhd and shit excuses for parents, so I did plenty of weird, mad things, but even as an adult I can understand my childhood reasons for the majority. Eg going riding at 4am, climbing things, hiding from parents.

I do remember we either got a microwave when I was preschool age, or maybe I had figured out how to climb up and work it and my dad explaining a few safety precautions. Instead of randomly pressing buttons I was obsessed with seeing what happened if I microwaved metallic things. I can't even say it was an adhd impulse thing, or I'd have probably just stuck in the first thing I saw. And for all his faults, it was the type of interest my dad would have explained at the time if I'd just been curious.

Instead I just felt compelled to experiment to see what happened. I have many memories of watching gold edged China, carefully pilfered from the glass cabinet in the dining room, spinning and sparking around. Usually not for very long because I didn't want to get caught if it exploded, until I overheard them arguing about whether tea in a fine china cup could be reheated, at which point it became my life mission to discover what happened to fine porcelain if I microwaved it. Unfortunately that was my downfall and my entertainment came to an end.

When we were on holiday (canaries, I think) we stayed in a block of flats with balconies - I leant over our balcony and SPAT on the persons head looking out of their balcony below and ran inside. I was a well behaved kid and no idea why I did it. Should be on ‘secrets I have never told’ thread too 😳. I’d have been so pissed off if I had been that man. I can still see the back of his head. I was about 8.

MrsS92 · 05/06/2021 21:25

My dad told me off for something or other so in retaliation I cut the front out of every single pair of boxer shorts he owned Blush
I also cut my sisters fringe, really really short so it just stuck out like a tuft at the front of her head 😂

Montalbanosono · 05/06/2021 21:29

Once tried with a friend to break into a third friend's house because she was out but we wanted to play with her toys. We were 5 and thought we could fit through the cat flap. We couldn't. Luckily her dad came home to find my friend wedged tight.Grin

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 05/06/2021 21:32

Genuinely wanted to be a seagull. I had a nest in the garden and everything 😲

TheChosenTwo · 05/06/2021 21:33

I was a weird kid I think.

Phoned 999 even though I was told not to, just for a chat. In the end a policewoman came round to my house to check everything was really okay as I’d done it a few times. She told me really nicely that every time I did it I was taking time away from a real emergency and that really scared me. I still feel incredibly guilty about that and have no idea why I didn’t stop before. Probably bored I guess.
Cut my own hair because I got some glue in it at school.
Me and a friend painted glue on our hands and peeled it off. Went back to our childminders and my friend went into the bathroom to rinse the rest of it off but instead used a razor blade to slice it off her arms. It did not end well!! Well, I mean she survived but it was a trip to A&E in an ambulance.
I used to sip spirits from my mums alcohol cabinet at about age 6. Not to get drunk or anything like that, just because it tasted really nice and sweet.
I remember being about 5 and squashing ants while I was sitting in my grandparents’ back garden. I was a horrible little cow!

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 05/06/2021 21:33

And I used to be really scared that the toilet would gobble me up at night if I used it so when I did I had to back out of the room watching it the whole time so I knew I was safe... me too! I still occasionally feel a bit odd about the flush in the night Blush. For some reason it's the flushing that freaked me out.

If I put something in the bin and the bin was empty I had to put two things in because otherwise the rubbish would be lonely Confused

I used to like sawing the wooden chopping boards with the bread knife. I was never told off, for it, not sure why. I knew it was a naughty thing to do, so perhaps I was restrained and no one noticed but I did it repeatedly and definitely lefts marks.

joystir59 · 05/06/2021 21:34

Sat behind a classmate in a boring lesson. She had a thick golden plait of hair and I had a pair of nail scissors....and snipped little snips all up and down her plait. I got called to the head of her house the next morning to explain my actions..apparently when she undid her plait to get ready for bed, half her hair fell on the floor.
I don't know why I did it to this day and was very remorseful.

elmfield4 · 05/06/2021 21:37

I burnt a hole in my mum and dads bedroom carpet with a hairdryer... still have no clue why I did it and it was probably the naughtiest thing I ever did

LoveFall · 05/06/2021 21:39

I was home sick from school and was allowed to rest in my parent's bed. There was a pink fluffy blanket on the bed. I picked pieces of the fluff out to spell my name.

I have no idea why. It was quite obvious I had done it.

Serena1977 · 05/06/2021 21:40

Picked my nose and ate it, all the time. No idea why 😮

My mum thought I was deficient in some vitamin so she took me to the docs. He thought my mum was bonkers but actually said it was good for my immune system because as i was constantly digesting bits of cold viruses, it would build up my immune system.

My dh stabbed his dparents water butt and put toilet paper in the holes of the electric sockets.

NameyNameyNameChangey · 05/06/2021 21:40

I deliberately smashed a jar of honey on the floor in Tesco for no reason.

This thread is hilarious.

I was an extremely well-behaved child but definitely did some weird stuff. I went through a stealing phase and would go with my mother to visit a bead shop and would steal a few different beads. I didn't even do anything with them, just kept them.

Also once wrote my brother's name on the kitchen table and pretended that he did it. Was shocked when my mom didn't believe me 😂

Aprilwasverywet · 05/06/2021 21:45

Me and a friend once took our doll's prams to the local petrol station and loaded up the pram with sweets!! Shoplifters! Blush
Never ever done anything like it since!!
Mortified at thinking about it now!!

Derrymum123 · 05/06/2021 21:46

Hid frogspawn in a bucket of water in the shed. A few weeks later it looked like a Paul McCartney video. Mum wasn't impressed. I was about 6 years old.Confused

Arepeoplereallycoolaboutthis · 05/06/2021 21:50

Ripped off bits of paper to chew
Weed under my mum's table once
Sniffed the sofa when someone farted and got up
Laid on the large bottom step of our staircase and pressed my neck against the edge of the next step to create a pressing/choking sensation on my neck...

Probably loads more. I was kind of weird! My two haven't done anything like this yet!

As a kid my carpet in my room was so dusty and had so much hair stuck in it, I wished my parents would vacuum it. But now I think, why didn't I just vacuum it myself?! This was a pre teen/teen so I easily could have. It wasn't exactly that I was lazy even - it just literally never occurred to me that I could do it.
