Mid life --crisis-- pondering about the future...

Hi,
Long time member of mn (lots of nn changes over the years ...)
I'm 50.
I've had a fair few health issues since I turned 40 and also sadly lots of bereavements and difficult times.
I suppose this has meant that I know that tomorrow isn't guaranteed and I try to challenge myself and take risks/do things that scare me a bit!
I have started from scratch and ran 3 very successful voluntary groups since 2018.
Sadly my health has taken a downturn during covid/lockdown and I've had to step down from 2 of 3 of these roles.
I have fibromyalgia and arthritis.
Kids are getting older now so not as dependant.
Dh will be working away periodically as soon as its safe to travel internationally again.
I have my elderly mum to consider too.
So...
I'm thinking my next challenge could be a degree?
Is that insane?
It would be pt and take years but I feel like I need to do something.
ATM paid work isn't an option (I'd be far too unreliable an employee due to my health problems)
It's a pretty predictable mid life crisis reaction to getting older isn't it?? 😀
Wwyd?

Go for a degree OP. My sister was in a similar position but found the whole process of studying a real life-changing experience.

Good luck, and whatever happens you'll have done something for you.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 04/06/2021 19:14

maybe to learn a language?
I've wanted to learn Spanish for decades and finally started in December.

apart from understanding more while watching Mexican drug cartel related stuff I can also pay Juan a compliment on his new red shoes!😁

I'm 46. I've always had a long list of stuff to do/try and been ticking stuff off despite having 7 kids so not quite at the buying a Harley and fuck off round the world stage yet!🤣

it's great to have dreams & ambitions. good for you!

Oh, wow, thank you!
I wasnt sure I'd get any replies!
I can speak basic French, italian and German but not really conversational level.
I'm considering learning the piano too 🤔
I think I might go for it! 😃

I think learning new things helps to keep you young at heart. If you don't want to commit to the time and expense of a degree, what about dipping a toe in the water with a GCSE or A-Level?

Justgivemewine · 04/06/2021 20:09

Go for it.
So what if it’s a mid life crisis 😁 I think I’m having one too.
I’ve just turned 50 and I am seriously thinking about what I can do for “me” for a change now the dc are getting older.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 04/06/2021 20:11

I think I'm actually partially regressing into 2nd childhood.
I've been playing with Lego🤣

Mrs08 · 04/06/2021 20:56

I've just built a shed summerhouse for me on the garden.
Just for me.
It's just big enough for one:)

Do whatever you think will make you happy.....I am turning 50 this year and I feel worn out with the grind of life. I want to do other things but for some reason they are not happening ...it is all I can do to walk the dog and potter in my garden. I have just laid out my exercise gear for tomorrow morning to go for a run...I am trying to just force myself to go forth when in all honesty I am not feeling it....
