Best contraception for me?

Hello,
Aplogies for posting this in chat, I can't seem to be able to select and post in a more suitable topic when using my phone.
I've just has my second dc. Love them dearly but DH and I agree that we don't want more children.
I had asked him to look into getting a vesectomy and he's refused.
This means (on top of everything!) contraception now falls to me. So far, I've abstained but this isn't an ideal solution. Can anyone recommend a suitable contraceptive that isn't a daily pill and doesn't mess with my hormones?

Condom?

Getoffmyhat · 04/06/2021 12:05

Thanks 1940s, I don't think it's an option as I'm looking for something long term. It's also how my second dc came into being 😂

I have the implant and I've never had any issues with it. I'm on my 3rd one. The only thing I've had is irregular periods with my first one, second one were mostly regular and my 3rd one I've not had a single period since I got it.

Thanks @PivotPivotPivottt I have had the implant, about 10 years ago now. I think I pretty bad hormone wise with that. I always know my period is due as a couple days before it comes, I get super anxious and paranoid for 24hours (not gun but I've learnt to accept and control it) when I had the implant I was like that but for longer amounts of time.
I'm 33, what are my chances of getting sterilised?

Copper coil?

RainbowCrayons · 04/06/2021 12:24

Copper coil has been amazing for me. I got one in in 2012, out in 2018, then had DS (very lucky first moth of trying) and a new one out in about 10 months after the old one came out. I'm very happy with it. I don't have to remember anything. It was fairly painful the first one I got, just uncomfortable the 2nd. I'm not sure if that was post-DC or just the different doctor. Either way totally worth it. The pill made me fat and crazy so no hormones is fantastic for me.

I’d agree that the copper coil sounds like it would be ideal for you. I’ve just had mine removed to TTC but would happily have another.

Being over 30 and already having children means youve a good chance of being accepted for sterilisation. Im 30 , one and done, and considering it very strongly. My gp said i might be pushed to try contraceptives like the implant first (which i had for my entire 20s) but that its definitely feasible. Im not sure what the official route is, i think your gp makes the referral. Definitely have a chat and see what they say.

We use condoms....and have been married for 5 years!

End of the day, pills, other medicines, and devices often have complications and side effects.

Condoms do usually work. And there is stuff you can do without condoms and no risk of getting pregnant.
