Anyone with travel sickness that's getting worse?

I've had bad travel sickness since I was a child.

Driving was the only way I could be sure I wouldn't feel sick.

Over the last few months, I now get travel sick when I'm driving too... last night I actually had to pull over 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I can't believe it. I can't possibly go on like this or I'll never be able to leave the flippin house.

I have travel sickness pills that I take for long journeys but they make me a bit spaced out so not good for driving - plus I can't be taking tablets 2 hours before I need to drive anywhere each day.

Anyone had a similar experience / any tips?

Have you had your eyesight checked recently?

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 04/06/2021 07:13

I haven't, no. Could be a good idea.

Hiya - yes me ! It’s a migraine trigger for me too, even if I’m driving. It was a huge problem because, as you say, TS meds make you feel sleepy. Tried the wrist bands - didn’t work at all, ginger helped a bit but not enough. My clever GP suggested Kwells ( Hyoscine / Buscopan/Scopolamine) which warn might make you drowsy but it was minimal and I got used to it v quickly. I take them 3 times a day if I’m out a lot and get them on prescription. I really notice it if I forget one.

Also - I take them about 15 mins before driving and it’s fine xx

Thanks '
@Nicpennguinn - I'll give Kwells a go.

Sorry that you suffer from this too. I know travel sickness seems minor, but it is actually quite debilitating x

Don't apologise ! I tried so many different things that made me feel awful , partly because of what I already take for my migraines. I couldn't drive for more than 10 mins without feeling awful for several hours, hardly ever actually vomiting . Kwells are different because they're not antihistamines, so you don't get that really heavy groggy feeling. It's such a horrible thing to get because it sounds so minor but it really impacts your life. A nice day out somewhere and I'd be looking for a cool place l to lie down and recover before driving back !! Do you get dizzy at other times? There's something in your ear which controls balance which physios can adjust for you. That can cause motion sickness, sometimes. Always good to get your eyes checked but it's not likely to be the cause of this problem. Good luck.

Same, I had it so bad when I was a kid and then when I was pregnant I couldn’t move for being sick.

Then after I had my LO it stopped.

A few years ago I got a nasty viral infection which caused labyrinthitis and now I’m travel sick again since.

I take buccostem which are tablets used for migraine nausea but they work quite well so I take them for both!

Yes. It's hideous. I'm the same, starting to feel sick when driving.
No solutions sorry 🤢

It's really worth trying Kwells if you haven't already. It's such a horrible thing xx
