Punting! Do a punt tour, or take a punt out yourself.
I’d normally say look round one of the colleges, like Kings or St John’s, but I can’t imagine they are letting tourists in at the moment.

We always go to Fitzbillies for lunch www.fitzbillies.com/

Phyllis321 · 03/06/2021 07:24

You could walk up the castle
Mound for a good view, or up Great St Mary’s if it’s allowed. Swimming at Jesus Green Lido? You’ll have to book, I think. Picnic on one of the many lovely greens like Midsummer Common. The Botanical Gardens. If they’re into Pink Floyd (highly unlikely I know!) there are dozens of places pay homage to. The market is very cool, with great food, crafts and some vintage clothing.

Definitely punting too!

Aethelthryth · 03/06/2021 07:26

Had a fantastic lunch yesterday at Parker's Tavern.

Colleges are closed at the moment.

Botanical gardens are open and lovely (theoretically book in advance but we jut walked up)

Fitzwilliam museum is great

The young people seem to enjoy swimming in the river at Grantchester

OlivePenderghast · 03/06/2021 07:27

I think Trinity College Punts is the cheapest for self punting Smile

sm40 · 03/06/2021 07:29

If you are going punting then granta is much cheaper that scudamors. Kings is open if you book ahead. I've just been with the kids! We took a walk on the backs, sat at the millpond. Went bowling, went on the wheel at Parker's piece. We had a rooftop drink at Varsity. There are 2 shopping places. The town and gratifying centre just in case you need primark!
Where are you staying?

However I used to live there so lots of our trip was telling the kids about my childhood, not sure if they cared!!

The Fitzwilliam museum is a little gem. (Opposite Fitzbillies!) it is open.
King's College chapel may be open.
Grand Arcade for all the usual shops.
The market square on Sundays is full of takeaway food stalls, Asian noodles, German sausages, Malaysian rice dishes etc etc. And craft stalls.
Lots of fine dining too ,starting with Midsummer House which has 2 Michelin stars , wonderful but £££.

Tartyflette · 03/06/2021 07:36

There's a coffee shop/café in Grand Arcade called Jamaica Blue where the coffee really is a cut above and the food is very good too.

Tartyflette · 03/06/2021 07:39

And this is really great if your kids can do galleries

Yippee Noodle bar on King St is excellent. Like Wagamamas but much, much better.

schroeder · 03/06/2021 07:46

Raja in King Street for a curry.

WentAboutMyDay · 03/06/2021 07:52

The Plough in Fen Ditton is a lovely riverside pub.

The orchid tea rooms in Granchester.

1busybee · 03/06/2021 07:54

Mill Road is worth an amble up and down - lots of variety of eateries. There’s punting, you can also hire sups now I think, there’s rainbow rocket climbing wall and an ice rink. Granchester tea rooms and walk/swim along the river, botanical gardens, shopping, quite a few small museums. I agree re yippee noodle bar, there’s also noodles plus on Mill road which is authentic Chinese dumplings etc very very small but you can take away and eat in the park. Lammas land playground and paddling pool is fun dependeinf on the age. Have fun

Mummyoftwo91 · 05/06/2021 21:24

I second yippie noodle, it's amazing! Eat it at least once a week Blush

katy1213 · 05/06/2021 21:28

Kettles Yard and the loveliest churchyard beside it. The Fitzwilliam. And a Fitzbillies' bun.

I've lived in Cambridge for 20 years and have never seen any places paying omage to Pink Floyd!!!!
