Low lying placenta after previous C section

I have just found out after a gender scan at 16+5 weeks that I have a low lying placenta. As this was a private scan I understand that I will likely need to wait until my NHS scan at 20 weeks to have this formally diagnosed unless I have any symptoms in the meantime.

This is my second pregnancy and I had an emergency C section last time. From what I have read it seems as though, whilst most cases of placenta previa correct themselves before birth, this can be less likely in cases of previous C section due to scar tissue.

So I suppose what I really want to know is whether there is anyone here who experienced a similar second pregnancy and went on to have the placenta previa correct itself okay? I can find plenty of scary stories and was hoping for some more reassuring experiences if anyone has them....?

Low lying placenta covers an awful lot of scenarios. You will have to careful close to time of birth if your placenta stays over your cervix. Usually they end up further away from cervix as the womb stretches. I had a low lying placenta which did mostly rise higher but one lobe stayed low. They went for a vaginal birth as wasn’t my first baby but I did have to get to the hospital early in labour and have extra monitoring. Poor baby did get a little bruised getting past the love that had stayed low but all was fine.
What will be will be now so I think arming yourself with knowledge and a definitive plan is the answer now. I would call your midwife in your situation and ask for reassurance and to be talked through the possible scenarios and options. As you’ve had a previous c section that I would suspect that they will suggest an elective c section if any concern. All the best.

*lobe not love

Thanks @UpHillandDownAle

I was planning another C section this time around anyway, so that part doesn't really bother me. I guess I am mostly keen to hear if there are any mums like me who had a previous C section and a second because of this issue, but that things could still largely go without major problem? It's so easy to find the scary stories sometimes, and whilst helpful to be aware of the risks, it's not always useful (for me anyway) to be pessimistic.

I had this! It moved up very slowly. I think I had to wait until about 36 weeks before it was no longer classed as low lying. But no issues at all with scar and uncomplicated section.

Thank you @Fabuleuse, this is what I need to hear Smile!

I had it with my third pregnancy. Previous C section. It corrected itself.

Thanks @BreakingtheIce/ @Fabuleuse -did you suffer from any symptoms? Did you manage to get away without the need for bed rest or hospital stays?-

Nothing happened at all! I had another unrelated potential complication too so I spent the entire pregnancy out of my mind with worry. But I had no bleeding or any other issue arising from the low lying placenta, no need for bed rest or hospitalisation and a healthy baby at full term who's now a giant boisterous 3.5 year old. Smile Take care, I know it's scary to be told something like this, but the majority of cases resolve themselves.

I am happy I found this post current 20+6 and I have been told I have a low placenta not sure how low it is but I’ll ask next time. I am worried after reading google because my last pregnancy ended in c-section.
