Urgent CV help - is this the right terminology

Hi

I would really appreciate some help here. Does the following make sense? Is disseminate the right word?

X is very analytical and enjoys disseminating data into a clear, articulate story

Thanks!

Err, it's a good word but don't think it's quite right. Disseminate = share, spread; so I would say summarising data into a clear, articulate story and disseminating effectively to relevant audiences (or similar).

MerylSqueak · 02/06/2021 09:05

I would use organising there. Disseminating information is akin to broadcasting it.

TedGlenn · 02/06/2021 09:10

It's not quite right - I think the word you are looking for is translating or conveying, but even they dont work with that sentence structure (you dont convey into). I would rewrite as "X is very analytical and enjoys conveying complex data to non-specialist audiences through a clear articulate story".

Thanks, I knew it wasn’t the right word

I really want to use analysing but that would be twice in the same sentence. Organising/ summarising are good but not quite right. I mean cutting the data and understanding the story rather than sorting the data etc

I’m liking interpreting

How does this sound?

X is very analytical and enjoys interpreting data to provide a clear, articulate and insightful story

HeronLanyon · 02/06/2021 09:19

Disseminate doesn’t carry notion of you interpreting.
Can you say ‘analysis of complex data and presentation in accessible format’ (or similar Grin)

CandyLeBonBon · 02/06/2021 09:20

Synthesise might be a better word?

Bluesheep8 · 02/06/2021 09:21

Why are you writing it in the third person?

HeronLanyon · 02/06/2021 09:22

Skilled in presenting complex data analysis in accessible formats.

Cancellingadvice · 02/06/2021 09:33

@Bluesheep8

Why are you writing it in the third person?
I’ve always been told to write a CV in third person. Is that not correct?
OP posts:
CandyLeBonBon · 02/06/2021 09:34

It's a common format op

Cancellingadvice · 02/06/2021 09:40

Synthesising is perfect, thanks

Bluesheep8 · 02/06/2021 09:42

I wasn't aware that it's a common format - you learn something new every day.
I've always written mine in the first person and I've never seen one written in the third person

NeilBuchananisBanksy · 02/06/2021 09:47

Ive never seen a cv in the third person and I've done lots of recruitment. It's your advert for yourself and should be in the first person.

Hfjshdhs · 02/06/2021 09:49

Definitely don’t write your CV in the third person

RestingPandaFace · 02/06/2021 09:49

Synthesising doesn’t work in that sentence either.

Third person CVs are quite old fashioned now, and you need to say why it’s important e.g. to facilitate decision making, to drive profitability etc.

“X enjoys / I enjoy analysing and interpreting data to provide insights and support decision making.”

CandyLeBonBon · 02/06/2021 09:59

First and third person are both acceptable

CandyLeBonBon · 02/06/2021 10:02

Removal of pronouns solves the problem of informality though.

BashfulClam · 02/06/2021 10:05

My DH had his third person and got nowhere. I changed it to first person and he got a lot more interest from recruiters. It seems weird to do a 3rd person format.

I've always written in 3rd person without pronouns and wrote cvs professionally for a while. It worked for me!
Nodal · 02/06/2021 10:07

Are you X? That seems very weird to describe yourself in the third person. I've never seen a CV like that in 20plus years of working in financial services/technology. I've reviewed hundreds, possibly thousands of CVs.

Is it an industry specific thing, Law maybe? The only person I've seen whose blurb on linkedin is in third person is a lawyer.

Aknifewith16blades · 02/06/2021 10:15

I agree, it is better to avoid saying what you enjoy, and focus on accomplishments. Some very good advice here: www.askamanager.org/2020/07/heres-a-bunch-of-help-finding-a-new-job.html

An American site (so CV = resume), but really helpful.
