To get vaccinated?
Haven't seen any official guidance on this, or any threads on here.

As far as I am aware, no you shouldn't take them.

I took my 2yo daughter. It was fine but I didn’t realise you had to wait for 15 mins at the end for obs. We had to sit in a room with others and wait (she had a stinker of a nappy and luckily I had some snacks to distract her). I think you would be better checking with the centre itself to see what facilities they have. I could have sat in the hallway if the room was too full but not all centres will be set up the same way.

Some people had young kids with them when I went. It was a long and boring wait though, so better if you can avoid it. But if you don’t have any other option I think it would be fine.

We had to wait for 45 mins after mine! Did you have the Pfizer? They had us all sit in chairs to be monitored for and side effects before we could leave.

At the vaccination centre I went to youd struggle if you took multiple kids with you. The chairs are all spaced out by 2 metres.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 31/05/2021 20:34

Just to warn you, I had a 1hr wait in a standing up queue for my jab, then there was the 15m wait at the other end.

BuffaloHigh · 31/05/2021 20:38

I had mine yesterday. Quite a few people had brought children and it was fine. They took them straight to the front of the queue and the queue was only 5 mins long anyway.

amicissimma · 31/05/2021 20:43

I've been volunteering in vaccination centres and quite a lot of people bring their children. Specially mid-afternoon after school pick up.

Tinies go in with mum/dad but older ones tend to get left in the waiting area, usually with a phone to play on. Best to check in before you hand the phone over to the child, though, if it's got your appointment details on it! We've had the odd one or two who think they're in a play area and the stewards tend to think keeping them amused while the parent is being jabbed is part of the job.

Keep in mind the 15 minutes wait afterwards and that people do tend to keel over in the area from time to time, so you may want to sit in a corner and be ready with an explanation. Also, one one occasion, we ran very late and people were waiting over an hour. But that is rare.

RampantIvy · 31/05/2021 20:54

Is the 15 minute wait afterwards just for the Pfizer jab? I had the AZ jabe and could leave straight away.

Couchbettato · 31/05/2021 21:05

It would have been impossible at my vaccination centre.

We were queued up in a straight line like the conga, after being taken into our hubs for vaccination we were to walk down a narrow hallway where no passing was allowed, and had to sit in our assigned seat. They didn't have spare seats for kids, and if they were stood up or hanging around then they wouldn't have been 2m from the next person.

linerforlife · 31/05/2021 21:09

I took my one year old with me last week. Lots of people had their kids there

stuckinarutatwork · 31/05/2021 21:11

There were quite a few when I went last week (mass vaccination centre in our nearest city). The kids were all ages from baby to about age 10, as it was a Saturday.

Scarby9 · 31/05/2021 21:12

I was asked to wait 15 mins after the AZ today, but if you were driving you could sit in your own car.

I had Moderna and had to wait for 15 mins before leaving.
MuchTooTired · 31/05/2021 21:12

The centre I went to had signs up at the door saying definitely no children allowed. It was a village hall though and all staff were volunteers - I don’t know if that makes a difference.

mimi14 · 31/05/2021 21:23

Thanks. The reason I ask is because DH has his at 3.40 on Saturday (well that's the appointment time anyway) and I have mine at 4.15 on the same day. (no other childcare).
I'm now wishing I'd arranged mine for a bit later so he would definitely be out of his appointment 🤦🏻‍♀️

I took my two year old today but it was a really big site.
They were really accommodating and took us to the front of the (short) line.

Crunchymum · 31/05/2021 21:29

@MootMoot

Why 45 minutes afterwards?

LindaEllen · 31/05/2021 21:30

It's advised for all vaccines - not enforced for any, you can walk out if you want to.

I also had az and was allowed to leave straight away after
Whosaidit · 31/05/2021 21:32

No one even mentioned waiting afterwards

I don't know! We got given a slip of paper with the time we could leave on it, which was 45 minutes post jab.

SusannahSophia · 31/05/2021 21:37

If your DH is a few minutes early or you are a few minutes late, I’m sure it won’t matter.

DuggeeHugPlease · 31/05/2021 21:39

I've been wondering this as I want to take my 8 week old ebf baby but my mum said it wouldn't be allowed but judging by the responses I should be ok

Picklesbaby · 31/05/2021 21:47

Mine and Dhs were both at 6pm . He had ds in the car seat & I took dd with me -all was fine

Zorinindustries · 31/05/2021 21:49

I took ds, age 12. I was totally expecting to be asked for him to wait outside. ( But he has asd and wouldn't have able to be left alone, so was sort of ready to explain and/or fight to keep him with me.)
But no one battery an eyelid.
And I had az but wasn't asked to wait afterwards.
Just queued up in the car park, continued the queue inside, sat in the nurses room, asked my name and date of birth, jabbed and walked straight out. No more that 30 seconds in the nurses room.
