Do you still make money selling on eBay?

As per the title.

I'm finally getting around to having a huge clear out & have lots of second hand items I'd like to sell. Mainly toys & clothes.

In years gone by I would have put them on eBay & probably done quite well. However I haven't sold on there for a couple of years & have heard people saying it's rubbish now? Higher fees for less profit, less buyers etc.

Is this true for you? Or are you still making profit on eBay? If it is true - is there anywhere better?

I'm not interested in FB selling. I want to post things to buyers. Cash on collection is hugely uncomfortable for me. Items I'm passing on for free I put on FB, but that feels different.

It’s still worth doing, we had a clear out recently and things sold well. Can’t remembered what the fees were compared to how they used to be, but it was money for stuff we weren’t using, so still worth it IMO!

No, not worth it. Particularly a baby clothes etc, toys.. postage and fees to much. You’d be better off trying face book or a car boot

I do but my items are £80 each plus postage. I only post when I get eBay incentive such as reduced final fees.

I found I actively lose money if an item is only a few pounds. By the time you've factored the standard charge, then the % charge then the % of the postage charge then wrapping then driving to the post office. Sometimes I just refund.

The best way is to sell In bundles and price with a buy it now. Then make sure you've added 12% on top of your postage and packing because eBay charge on postage collected. Try to make items around £20. And wait for an eBay incentive offer.

But.....mark in your diary when 28 days is up. You need to remove the listing at this point as it reverts back to full fees and again it's not worth the hassle. I've been caught out twice and it's frustrating as it's hard to know why you've been charged a lot during an eBay offer promotion. It's because it's only valid for the first 28 days.

I do, not much at all but it saves me just chucking it away in the clothes bin.

I have a friend whose main business is selling ebay. Her average item value is £11, she bundles cheaper items. For big items not suitable for shipping she does put on FB. She's doing well.enough to rent a unit to store and pack things.

Thank you all.

I think I'll give it a go with a few bundles & see how I get on Smile.
