Hi can some one help me. So under my door at the back are 3 little holes I saw a wasp going in and out . I thought well I have a young boy who is allergic to them so I put 3 stickers over the holes. Now I honestly didn’t realise what would happen. I had to get my son in quickly and shut the door. A load of wasp are going mental by my back door which is now shut. But what do I do now ? Will they go away ? They have been there for around a hour or so I have to call someone. 😬🤦‍♀️

Unblock the holes, and ignore it. Just get your son not to play nearby, they don't use the same last two years in a row. Wasps are very important for pollination, treat them like he would bees.

Call someone professional in. If they are trying to nest you need to get it killed and removed, they cam do a huge amount if damage if they get in to cavity walls etc. I had to have upvc window frames replaced last year as the little bastards had bested inside the frame and caused it to warp.

If you know where they're getting in and out you can buy foam poison stuff that kills them. We had them in an air brick before and it did the job, go out after dark when they're less active to apply it.

Can you unblock the holes safely yourself? Assuming just paper stickers, they’ll probably chew their way back into their nest fairly quickly.
I’d buy a can of foam wasp nest killer, wait until dark when they’re all in the nest and then squirt the foam into the holes to destroy the nest.
If it doesn’t work, then you’ll need to pay professionals to clear it

CaptainMorgansMistress · 31/05/2021 16:21

Maybe go out with a long stick with a pencil taped to the end to push a hole in the stickers from a distance, so at least the wasps calm down and then you can deal with them later

Buzlightyear1 · 31/05/2021 16:24

Brilliant thank you I will try the foam wasp killer late at night. I don’t want them to do any more damage I stupidly thought it would just stop them. I didn’t realise there was that many I thought it was just one. Thank you so much. ☺️

Never ever block a nest. If they can't get in or out that way, they'll make or find a new access point, often a loft or window vent which frequently ends in a houseful of wasps.

FlibbertyGiblets · 31/05/2021 16:47

I've used blu tac to stop up a wasp nest hole without issue.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 31/05/2021 16:50

Ground nesting wasps can be best dealt with by sprinkling ant powder around the holes. They will take it into the nest with them overnight and will all die. You occasionally have to do it two nights in a row.

But do unblock the holes, you want all the wasps inside, eating and spreading the poison, not angrily trying to get in.

Buzlightyear1 · 31/05/2021 16:53

Thank you everyone I have gone out with a pen stuck to a broom and re poked the holes. And have ordered some posion for them . Thank you so much

Please do not attempt to get rid of the wasps on your own. Contact your local council in the morning, they will send someone out who’s trained to deal with nest safely. 😌

Be very careful. My husband was stung multiple times, even through his clothes, when he tried to spray that foam stuff into a nest under the eaves right by our bedroom window. He also brought some into the house on his clothing. Thankfully he was ok.

As to ignoring them, it is obviously not right to go around killing wasps, but when they are in close proximity to your home, sometimes you just have to.

I would call an exterminator. They also put something down that discourages them nesting in the same spot again.

I will confess to being a bit scared of them. It has been all over the news here about an invasive species of hornet they call the murder hornet. It is from Japan. They are trying very hard to find any nests. They nest in the ground.

[shiver goes down my spine]

If you have an allergic child get someone profession in.

Pollination v anaphylactic shock? No contest.

That's what I always used to do. Until a huge horde of the bastards ate their way through my porch ceiling and cost me £1,000.
nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 31/05/2021 19:04

They absolutely do nest in the same spot twice. We had them in the porch 4 years running.
