I am off work, can’t drive, can’t lift anything, am tired easily and need to walk slowly and short distances

Kids are teenagers

I am so bored. Bored bored bored. I have started a paint by numbers, started a book, did some crosswords and watched some TV. Still bored 😂

Look at the earn £10 a day thread - do surveys and things and earn some cash

newnortherner111 · 31/05/2021 10:16

Learn a new language, which can be done online. Or improve on one you have some knowledge of.

Emanresus · 31/05/2021 10:17

Family tree research?

froomeonthebroom · 31/05/2021 10:18

Build one of those doll house room kits you can buy on Amazon, learn to crochet by watching youtube, plant some herb seeds for a window sill, scratch art, make a photo book online. Hope you feel better soon!

EversoDelighted · 31/05/2021 10:25

Get started on your Christmas shopping online (if you are someone who likes to plan ahead).

ApolloandDaphne · 31/05/2021 10:28

Jigsaws?

SundayGirl86 · 31/05/2021 10:34

Enter competitions - you never know, you could win big!! There’s a competition board on the MoneySavingExpert forum section of the website so you don’t even need to go searching for competitions to enter. They’re all there for you.

WishingHopingThinkingPraying · 31/05/2021 10:36

Jigsaws!

AnaViaSalamanca · 31/05/2021 10:38

Do you like reading? What about some engaging page turners?

Baking?

Buy a cheap guitar and learn from youtube?

Do a course on coursera/udemy?

Forgive me if I am being callous asking, but do you have a disability or just unfit? If the latter perhaps some gentle excercise?

Rainbowqueeen · 31/05/2021 10:42

Podcasts
Declutter the medicine cupboard and any other cupboard with only light things in it.
Review your wardrobe and work out what you need for the season ahead Mend things that need mending.
Make a different smoothie to drink each day.
Jet punk.com has quizzes online
Can you do yoga?

Online scrabble or chess

Menora · 31/05/2021 10:44

I’ve had an operation so this is temporary

Thanks for the ideas!

Menora · 31/05/2021 10:45

I’ve had a total abdominal hysterectomy so gentle stretching is pretty much the limit 😂
Cant sit or stand for too long but do want to stay active

newnortherner111 · 31/05/2021 10:46

I hope you make a full recovery speedily OP.

ApolloandDaphne · 31/05/2021 10:48

After my hysterectomy I mostly lay on the sofa watching endless box sets. It was during the the big snow of 2010 and I couldn't even get out for a gentle walk. After a few weeks you will feel much better and be able to do light pottering.

apricotparfait · 31/05/2021 10:56

Set up an Etsy shop and sell revamped things, or make things to sell.
Eg, buy bundles of vintage or used clothes on eBay and revamp/recondition and resell either on Depop/Etsy, Vinted or Ebay it's a great hobby with the added bonus of a bit of money making.

NoSquirrels · 31/05/2021 10:57

Audiobooks - Audible have a promotion for first signup and you can cancel really easily afterwards.

What thoroughly irritating admin tasks would help you in the future - it’ll be dull now but give you a warm glow when it’s done and you reap the benefits? I’m thinking things like sorting out old photos/making photo books/backing up stuff, making an ‘in case of emergency’ file with all the financial stuff up to date, doing a comprehensive meal plan and shopping list system, buying birthday cards for the whole year (with stamps a d addresses) etc

What do your teens need to know? Can they do everything practically they need or what can they be instructed in as a ‘learning experience’ for ongoing life skills? Grin

Plan an amazing holiday - a fantasy one, or one you could potentially save up for. Look for accommodation, sights, all that stuff.

Menora · 31/05/2021 10:59

@ApolloandDaphne

I find lying down hard work! Got a really painful left side when I turn or hoist myself up - lying on something soft I get stuck 😂

Sitting on a hard chair is ok for a short while then there is pressure on the wound so i quite like reclining on an angle backwards

Also have to wear ugly stockings for weeks so kind of glad I am not going out in public

I think I might try reading again and maybe some competitions

Have you had your stitches/staples out yet? I was much more comfortable once they were out.

1n5piration · 31/05/2021 11:53

Make yourself an account on your teenagers games console Grin

Menora · 31/05/2021 12:15

@ApolloandDaphne

Apparently they dissolve and I have the enjoyment of ‘pinging’ and maybe some PV blood loss come 😂

Hope you recover quickly op.

My sister was laid up for a few weeks with a torn tendon in 2019. She wiled away the time with knitting and doing crosswords.

Reallybadidea · 31/05/2021 12:32

Learn to knit or crochet. Once you are reasonably proficient then it's easy to do while watching TV or listening to podcasts. Super relaxing and actually quite addictive.

Menora · 01/06/2021 15:17

I decided to read Don Quixote. It’s good so far

UpTheJunktion · 01/06/2021 17:56

Get sorted for Christmas: online shopping, wrap everything.
Get cards written and ready to post.

Sort out all your photos. Sort, catalogue, labels the files etc.

Admin: check the comparison sites for better deals to save you ££

Earn ££: check out customer survey sites etc.

Look at the free courses on Future Learn. Or if there is something you would really benefit from, invest in yourself on a paid course.

FrenchieFromGrease · 01/06/2021 18:03

Try chair yoga? I think part of bedrest induced boredom is your body needing to expel energy. Obviously you might not be able to do this!

Grow some plants from seed?

Write your memoirs?

Organise your digital photos?

It's so hard isn't it? Hope you feel better soon. Have you read The Count of Monte Cristo? That's good (and long!)
