what's it all about?

does anyone try and reduce their population?

Catford sounds like the sort of place to find dead rats, TBF.

We saw loads driving down to Cornwall. Really sad.

Loads of road kill in my area of N Yorks
Far more than usual
I wondered if there was something going on
Badgers, foxes, pheasants and other birds, rabbits, stoats
It’s the 5g disorientating them isn’t it 😂

West Oxfordshire here and there are loads of Muntjac deer around so sadly they are often on the side of the A40. Late at night they wander up to gardens too.
DD1 hit a badger 5 weeks ago... she was in labour on the way to the hospital (her dh was driving , obviously) Sadly the badger died and the front end of the car was trashed. Up close they are so big and muscular!

Yes there are a lot of dead animals on the roads where I live. Many are trying to find somewhere to live because of all the new houses being built.
It really helps if any badgers you see are reported to your local badger group.

i did a fair bit of damage to my car a few years ago hitting a badger, and as mentioned by a previous poster, i get quite anxious driving at night in case of deer.

i havent seen a live one for a while though
i guess they are more active at night.

Round here there aren’t as many gamekeepers. It’s a shame as venison is a good form of high-quality protein that does not rely on intensively farmed animals. We have far more deer around now and they are a danger on the roads. Sad to see them killed in this way too.

oneglassandpuzzled · 31/05/2021 20:23

Sadly I think our large badger population has driven out the hedgehogs.

MrsPnut · 31/05/2021 20:29

There is the odd dead deer at the side of the road round here but not that common.
I did once have a scare at about 6am whilst driving to catch the train to London. I was doing 60mph and thought oh look deer, and then oh fuck second deer whilst I stomped on the brakes. I managed to stop and because it was so early I was the only car on the road.

Badgers are the farmers killing them and chucking them on the road to cover it up.

Animals are becoming more active now and moving more. I doubt lockdown was lasting enough to change the mind of animals, but there are generally more young ones and mothers feeding young ones at this time of year meaning more road crossings. A lot of the dead badgers will be either Cubs or sows looking after those Cubs Sad
