Makeup always looks cakey

Hello,

I've recently got into putting make up on but my foundation always looks cakey, can see little bits if that makes sense. I've tried moisturising more and letting it soak in before applying but it doesn't help.

Does anyone have any top tips?

I use a Clarins foundation that I had matched to me in boots.

Are you using a matte foundation? You might need something more dewy/hydrating. And something buildable so you can put less on then layer up your problem areas.

What do you use to apply it? I find. A beauty blender style thing works best

I was having this problem recently, I think it's because I'm getting old Hmm

I was using my fingers to apply foundation but switched to a sponge and that seems to have sorted it out

Cleanse
Exfoliate
Little bit of moisturiser/primer.
Use a brush or sponge.

Failing that, find a lighter foundation such as a BB cream or tinted moisturiser.

Use a bb or cc cream and concealer where you feel you need it

Try an essence lotion before moisturising;this helps moisturiser skin into the skin better.

Next use a decent primer.

Consider investing into a good quality foundation brush to apply foundation.

Lastly use a facemist on top and spritz throughout the day especially when it's hot.

A good primer should help.

Also just to add;try an face peel once a week to remove dry skin;the bodyshop do a good range of these

Thank you for all the suggestions! I've been using my fingers, I did have a foundation brush but seemed to make it really liney

Definitely get a beauty blender (sponge). Run it under warm water and squeeze it all out, then use it to apply your foundation. Makes a huge difference to using fingers.

Try applying setting powder after the foundation, mines was always cakey until I did this x

I had this and so switched to a BB cream (No7 Beautiful Skin) - I then got a compliment on my skin for the first time in my entire life!!

I second a damp beauty blender sponge! The branded beauty blender is around £20 but i use a primark version for everyday use, which is surprisingly good!

partyatthepalace · 30/05/2021 20:15

Could it be too dry?

Foundation is a lot for everyday unless you have problem skin. I would try a tinted moisturiser - Bobbi brown do counter makeovers and they are usually v good

I have recently re-learned how to apply make up using Robert Welsh videos on YouTube! I recommend!
