Is there any way to stop the b'stard tabloids stealing stories from Mnet?

Just reading the thread about the vile bride who didn't want her friend to be a bridesmaid because the dresses were more important than her friendship and seen the link to where the Sun has just lifted the whole story, inserted some ridiculous stock images and called it journalism. Fucking cheek.

Is there any way to stop them? @MNHQ Can we copyright all our posts?!

It’s a public forum. If you post it here you can’t complain it gets lifted.

JellyTumble · 30/05/2021 20:32

I thought permission would have to be granted from the Op but clearly not.

@Justanticipating Why would it? Confused It’s a public forum.

Yes. And it's not as though this is the first time this issue has been raised.

If you work for daily mail, sun or mirror I don't think you should be allowed to call yourself a journalist Envy

thisplaceisweird · 30/05/2021 23:25

the fact that someone's real life problems are used for entertainment purposes

Oh... Why is everyone else here?

I was thinking the same thing.

What's the difference between people who read MN threads and rarely/never comment, and reading them in the tabloids?

VerinMathwin · 30/05/2021 23:46

@newnortherner111

Can I offer a dissenting view. I am OK with it as long as MN is acknowledged at the beginning of the article. It exposes lazy journalism.

Glad you referred to them as tabloids, as I would never call The Sun a newspaper, and the Daily Mail is The Paper that Supported the Blackshirts.

Or indeed the Guardian as the Paper that Supported Eugenics. Strange how that never gets mentioned while the DM reference is dragged up endlessly.

Ha. Good point @VerinMathwin.

It isn't THE paper that supported the fascists. The Mirror is no less guilty.

No.

It's a public forum. Of course they're going to post newsworthy information. I feel like a I can smell a DM story a mile off too

NameyNameyNameChangey · 31/05/2021 05:49

It's a public forum, and it's probably also free advertising.
It's a shame because I'm sure some people think twice about posting when they need actual help.

NameyNameyNameChangey · 31/05/2021 05:49

Also, it must generate clicks, or they wouldn't bother. I wonder who reads those "articles"?

Sparklingbrook · 31/05/2021 05:51

This again. Don’t want it in the papers? Don’t post it. That’s it.

OldkermitSippingtea · 31/05/2021 06:45

Oh and you patronising buggers with your bless yous and sweet summer wotsits can fuck off Daily Mail Halo

Grin Bless your heart dear.

I hope you know DM isn't the only place mumsnet threads end up? There are blogs and other forums online where people's posts on mn are discussed. Public forums are open to anyone. You can even start one yourself, lift the DM or mumsnet posts and discuss them.

meditrina · 31/05/2021 06:54

Posting something on MN is global publication anyhow.

That other organisations sometimes repeat what is in the public domain globally is not something that could or should be inhibited.

But the next publisher shouid give proper acknowledgement

Repeating what has been published here seems to happen in waves - flavour of the month for a while, then ebbs.

It's been going on for years.

And the bottom line is, as always, to remember that MN isn't private, isn't a 'safe space', and isn't a matter with your mates. Posting here is worldwide publication. If you don't want something published like that, don't post it on MN, or any other open site.

I do! Blush I give myself a sticker if my comment makes the paper.
AlternativePerspective · 31/05/2021 07:16

the fact that someone's real life problems are used for entertainment purposes erm, and do you not think that most people come on here for entertainment purposes?

People need to get over this idea that MN is some kind of safe space. It really isn’t. Anyone could start a blog/column about a thread on here. In fact as well as newspapers I believe that there are numerous sub reddit forums where they not only discuss the posts, but who they do and don’t think are trolls.

years and years ago there was a poster called Morningpaper who did a weekly column in the guardian I believe. And was paid for so doing.

Oh, worth remembering as well that Justine’s husband is some big wig in the guardian….

meditrina · 31/05/2021 07:24

That assumes that threads are what they seem.
