Phrases that make no sense at all!

I hear phrases all the time. And some of them make no sense at all. Let's have a laugh and name the phrases or things that people say frequently and make no sense. Meant to be lighthearted and fun this Sunday !

I will go first :

They are/it's as tough as old boots (I thought old boots would be falling apart, or are they, in fact a really strong pair of boots, that are really ancient?)

Chester draws (people say this all the time in place of chest of drawers)

There were bare people in the park (London slang, haha there were naked people in the park?)

I could care less/I could give a rat's ass (makes no sense, it should be I couldnt care less etc)

I brought it from the shop (no, its bought)

Got my hair/nails did (no, its hair done)

He brang it/brung it (oh gosh)

Sling your hook (what hook? Haha, where is the hook)

Low it / Allow it (London slang for stop it, but surely allow means allow it to happen?)

Young women or girls , particularly in USA and UK calling eachother Bro!

I say brung it Blush, I do know it's brought it, I'm just really common!

'I could care less' and 'Chester draws' really irritates me too!

Sling your hook is a dockers phrase. Hook was an anchor, the sling housed the anchor. So it meant “lift your anchor and sail away” Smile

op lots of those are sloppy mishearings but "bare" is (was) teen slang for lots of, or very. It's bare hot in here; I bought bare cakes at the fair, that kind of thing.

Tough as old boots refers to the leather rather than the construction. It goes really hard x

@AtoZed wow, it's amazing when you look up words and see their origin.

Haha , yes @clary, bare, is so common now.

@kiki275 yes so they're so tough they will never fall apart. I often watch Gordon Ramsay's kitchen nightmares. And he often refers to some hard meat as tough as old boots. And I often debate with my son, arent the old boots falling apart. And he is adamant they are strong old boots ie tough old.boots as they are long lasting.

@eandz13 the amount of times I have read looking for it in my draws. Lol. Looking for it in your drawings, perhaps . Hahaha
