Someone threw a rock at our window?

Just heard a massive thump on our bedroom window and went out to find a substantial rock on the lawn. Do we tell the police tomorrow or leave it?

I don’t know. Can you tell me if I should have one bit of toast or two?

TO12T39FRQ · 29/05/2021 23:05

well a rock will have done some damage....are you sure a 'pebble' would not be a better description

skinschool · 30/05/2021 01:06

Not sure the police would be that interested if it hasnt't causes damage.

I had something thrown at my window which cracked the outer pane, the police just gave me a crime reference number. I had another the next year, which caused a tiny chip.

The next year, at 4am, I was woken when both my bedroom and lounge windows, were smashed simultaneously. My bedroom and lounge floors, were covered in glass. Luckily my bed wasn"t under the window, even so the end of the bed had glass over it.

That time the police did come out, but never found the culprit.

I had to live with a semi-dark lounge and bedroom for a few weeks, till they got reglazed.

I don’t think the police would be that bothered. How big is the rock? Not substantial enough to break the window?

Ostara212 · 30/05/2021 01:12

I'd tell them now, attempted break ins could be going on in your area at the mo.

If someone has targeted you, even more reason to report now.

That's terrifying.

Aye sure you should waste police time informing them something hit your window at night, you don’t know what or who or why but hey, so long as you report it eh! They won’t at all be wondering wtf you’re doing tying up the phone lines for something they won’t give a crap about.

Wow

@Ostara212 it can be pretty mind blowing realising little things aren’t serious in the grand scheme of things, especially not to emergency services, but there’s simply not enough resources to go around for every tiny bump in the night.

I'm aware of that

I do think attempted break in counts as something they might still care about though. Unless they're monitoring Twitter.

You obviously don't think it's important. I only know one policeman but I'll ask him what he thinks.

OP I hope you are all right Flowers

ConfusedAdultFemale · 30/05/2021 01:39

What attempted break in? Unless we read different threads, OP heard a bang on the window which could have been anything from a bird to a rock, went outside to investigate and found nothing out of the ordinary bar a stone laying on the grass. But by all means phone the police, see how seriously they take it.

TropicalFairyCake · 30/05/2021 05:00

Kids occasionally throw stuff at windows near us. I hate it! But with no idea who they are what would anyone do.

Unless it really is a brick/ you have the brick/they broke the window etc I think they'd be as interested in someone throwing a something as a kid knocking on your door and running...

TenCornMaidens · 13/06/2021 11:00

Just an update: we called police after the first incident and got an incident number. It happened again last night and they are now treating it as attempted criminal damage and a crime of harassment. So the police are taking it seriously.

For those who apparently need every single detail of why we k ew this wasn't just a bump in the night, I can't be arsed. But we installed a security camera after last time and caught a very grainy image of the culprit last night, plus found their hat (visible in the footage) on the footpath. The police said if the image was rarer they would DNA test the hat. Not a bump in the night - criminal harassment.

TenCornMaidens · 13/06/2021 11:04

*clearer not rarer

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 13/06/2021 11:06

was it a Grey Rock?

fluffedup · 13/06/2021 11:08

Modern double glazing is hard to break - aren't you supposed to try to smash it near the edge, if you need to smash a window when there's a fire for example, because if you try to smash it in the middle it'll just bounce off?

Anyway the CCTV was a good idea.
