Would you lease a car?

Just can't decide which way to go on this! Leasing a car for 4yrs, very affordable monthly payments, brand new car, nothing to do so no hassle, but nothing to show for it at the end. Vs buying a second hand car, which is £10k more, responsible for MOT, servicing, anything that goes wrong, bit you own it.

I suppose I feel that leasing is dead money but am tempted by the lower costs.

@motogogo

You need to look at the miles included (there's hefty penalties for doing more), damage charges (kids and a dog are likely to do damage), etc. Check what actually included, often you have to pay for servicing at the dealer. We are looking at a Renault Zoë as a second car, and it's not simple to work out
The mileage charges on ours aren’t hefty. It’s around 7.5p a mile. I was dithering between 5000 miles & 8000 miles - I can’t remember now what difference that made to the monthly cost, but each extra 1000 miles would only cost £75, or c £6 a month. (We went for 5000 because we really aren’t driving much these days but now I’m finding, despite my “only £75 per 1000” I start twitching at the thought of an unexpected journey Hmm)

@Orangeinmybluelightcup have a play around on the What Car leasing site, which is where I found ours (at a good price, at a fairly local dealership)
It’s easy to use and you can tweak all the variables Smile

To those saying a new leased car is reliable: it was not my 'old banger' that stranded us on the side of a motorway, it was a family member's leased Audi. And the fault got blamed on them and they had to pay £££s for the repair.

My husband leases his car. Affordable payments, brand new car and whenever anything goes wrong it's all included in the price. He's very happy with it. When the four years are up he will trade it for another one.
I got mine outright and I'd much rather do that. Each to their own I guess. Positives and negatives to both.
