One benefit of lockdown was DS discovering Horrible Histories! He particularly likes the Egyptians, the Greeks and WW2.

If you can see HH in person it's a good afternoon.

Also your DC might like the Lord Chamberlain's Men, a traditional Shakespearean theatre group, men dressed up as women etc which Dd is looking forward to us seeing this summer. They are doing Macbeth this year in Open Air theatred

Not TV, but Terry Deary has written some books that my DS found thoroughly enjoyable. They are basically little children's adventures in a set time period.

The Apple Spy is a favourite.

Not TV based but try your local library as they will have loads of books to continue to fuel your DS imagination. You could also join English heritage for Roman ruins in England to visit or look out locally to see if you have any free museums that might spark his interest. Also for WW2 if you holiday or live near Cornwall Flambards theme park has a great WW2 display where you can walk through a blitzed house. Equally there are often lots of steam fairs and WW2 themed fairs on over the summer and with any luck might be on this year. Worth checking locally if you’re interested.

I hope at some point during the summer you can take your 8 year old DS to somewhere relevant to his interest. Aircraft museums often have WW2 aircraft for example.

The Dan and Jon Snow Battlefield Britain documentaries are great and age appropriate. Dan Snow also did one about filthy cities, I think it's called Muck and Misery.
Dan Snow is my secret Tory crush.

If you're ever in North Yorkshire Eden Camp is a great visit. It's based in an old prisoner of war camp and has lots of interesting things in quite an accessible way.

Dominic Sandbrook is launching a new series aimed at those readers of HH that want a bit more! It’s called Adventures in Time and it’s out in July...

Read Michael Morpurgo novels
Ernst Gombrich, a Little History of the World
David Olusoga, Black and British (kids version)

Don't shy away from discussing the Holocaust. It's an integral part of European history and it's important we don't forget what happened. Like other difficult topics, it's often best discussed when you have time to answer questions about it.
