Wedding gift idea?

CuriousandReady · 28/05/2021 11:06

My best friend gets married tomorrow. I have no idea what to do for a gift.

I’ve asked them both and they’ve both said they don’t want gifts, but I’d like too get something.

Like many, this wedding is a year overdue and much smaller than was planned before covid. I know they won’t be expecting a gift but what can I give as a token?
They are in the process of buying a bigger house if that helps, lesbians with 2 children.

Any ideas appreciated with a small budget.

Thank you!

Voucher for a plant as soon as the house is theirs? We did this for friends and they really loved it, no stuff they don't need but somehting which reminds them on their wedding. 10 years later and it is a really nice large shrub.

Babysitter voucher book?

Cocktail shaker with book of cocktails if they like to drink
Plant for the garden eg lemon tree, or indoor plant
Decorative mirror for the hall
Lovely white towels
Garden pots or hanging basket

Difficult to suggest something when we don't know the people and the wedding is tomorrow.
I'd go for a nice bottle of champagne.
Moet or similar aren't too pricey but look good and are readily available.

"No gifts" is often a polite way of saying we have our own tastes and prefer to choose our own furnishings. If they wanted tangible things they'd probably have a wedding list.

If you're not comfortable with a store gift voucher eg John Lewis or B&Q if they're going to be renovating, then I think @reluctantbrit plant voucher idea is a great idea.

Plant voucher all the way.

I was thinking something for their new garden, like a tree, so I’ll go with that idea.

Thanks all

"No gifts" = "Cash please!" here, so I'd do cash maybe with a very small token.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 28/05/2021 14:59

No gifts means no gifts.

BarbaraofSeville · 28/05/2021 15:01

No gifts = we have more than enough stuff already and don't want to have to deal with any more. Some people genuinely do not want gifts and aren't expecting money either.

However, if you insist and know they drink alcohol, a bottle of fizz is nice or something like an M&S voucher if you're not sure - they can buy food, flowers, clothes or homeware with it.

No gifts means they have more stuff than they cope with already. Possibly a David Austin rose for the garden?

a voucher for a weekends babysitting of the 2 kids so they can have a weekend away together
