Best seaside towns with young children

We have been to a few and many of them seems to geared towards the older generation and we prefer somewhere a bit more kid friendly. We live on the Kent coast and there tends to be a younger family oriented crowd, any non Kent seaside towns that are popular with families that you’d recommend?

Paignton maybe? Or Torquay.

Otherwise the Channel Islands have great beaches and have attractions for all age groups.

We always went to Hunstanton as children because it was our closest coastal town & it's still as lovely going back with DD now. We also love Filey & Bridlington in Yorkshire.

Easily accessible from us in the land locked midlands but might be a bit of a trek for you though 🤣

SMabbutt · 28/05/2021 11:21

Hunstanton has a lovely safe beach and if you go up to Old Hunstanton you can find a less commerialised beach. Also in Wales from Saundersfoot to Wisemans Bridge and beyond has beautiful beaches with rock pools.

Swanage. We went there after a recommendation. Lovely beach and lots to do all walkable. We went every year for the next six years! But do hire a beach hut before you go from the tourist office as it saves carrying stuff around.

Smartiepants79 · 28/05/2021 11:22

We love Weymouth. Also second Hunstanton.

MinnieMountain · 28/05/2021 12:57

Hunstanton or Wells Next the Sea.

Tenby if you mainly want a big beach.

MrsCremuel · 28/05/2021 14:35

Loved Tenby actually and Wales, last went without children - thanks for the reminder! Hearing a lot about Hunstanton, I will check it out!

We’ve always holidayed in the UK but have limited experience of doing so with a toddler (and soon a baby too).

West wittering is lovely.

Notavegan · 28/05/2021 15:01

I was going to say Tenby.
Nothing else comes close to me, in a town setting in the UK. If there are others I want to know Grin

Mumof1andacat · 28/05/2021 15:03

Weymouth, swanage, paignton, torquay, Blackpool and southsea

MegBusset · 28/05/2021 15:03

Cromer's more kid-friendly than Wells imo (was always worried about losing one of them off the harbour wall, plus they've shut the little train that goes to the beach).

BarbaraofSeville · 28/05/2021 15:05

Are you looking for a day trip or a holiday?

The Yorkshire coast has some great family orientated beaches - Filey, Bridlington, Scarborough, Whitby, Saltburn and the area is nice and well set up for a holiday, eg indoor water park with splash area for little ones in Scarborough.

beryltheperilrocks · 28/05/2021 15:07

The Isle Of Wight is just fabulous for young kids. .plus it feels a bit like abroad because of the boat. so much to do there for little ones

KindergartenKop · 28/05/2021 19:39

Sandown and the whole eastern side of the Isle of Wight is brilliant.

newnortherner111 · 28/05/2021 20:32

I agree about Swanage and found Exmouth seemed possibly suitable.

LemonRoses · 28/05/2021 20:34

Isle of Wight. As someone says, Eastern beaches are good for little ones.
West Wittering is beautiful, but I’d not think it ideal for pre school children.

Scarby9 · 28/05/2021 20:36

Scarborough
Tynemouth
Whitley Bay (massively changed from when I was young).

VienneseWhirligig · 28/05/2021 20:39

Hayling Island or West Bay? Also agree with Torquay or Brixham.

ShanghaiDiva · 28/05/2021 20:44

Sandy bay, exmouth.
Beach has a blue flag, leisure centre in the town for rainy days, small cinema and crealy adventure park is nearby.

MrsPnut · 28/05/2021 20:47

I was coming on to say Bridlington, it has Sewerby Hall with it’s small zoo and great play ground, the fun fair, the land train and miles of Sandy beaches. It also has a great splash pool next to the beach huts you can rent by the day.

looptheloopinahulahoop · 28/05/2021 20:48

@IsThePopeCatholic

West wittering is lovely.
And the most crowded beach in the northern hemisphere.
CroydianSlip · 28/05/2021 20:51

I came on to say Exmouth like PP.

There's a big expanse of sandy beach, good parking nearby/on the front, there's lovely parks on the beach front (Queen's Drive) and in the town. There's indoor soft play at Ocean with bowling etc too. The trains run really frequently from the station and are worth going on for a trip just for the Estuary views, it can feel you're running on the water! There's also a tourist land 'train' and a miniature railway ride.

JackANackAnoreeee · 28/05/2021 20:59

I second the channel islands. Jersey has some lovely beaches (Plemont bay is amazing)

MoChridhe · 28/05/2021 21:06

I've been told good things about Margate. We are checking it out next week.

Stichintime · 28/05/2021 21:06

Weymouth, Swanage, Isle of Wight. Loads to do for kids.
