Hair dye removal kits

After years of colouring my own hair I’m thinking of using something like this:

www.amazon.co.uk/Colourless-Effect-Hair-Colour-Remover/dp/B01N3395ZF/ref=sr_1_14?hvlocphy=1007128&hvnetw=g&keywords=hair+dye+remover&hvadid=259098011923&qid=1622132077&dchild=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI0sLExaDq8AIVPxoGAB3r6gm9EAAYASAAEgLdkfD_BwE&hydadcr=28151_1752779&hvdev=c&hvqmt=e&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&hvtargid=kwd-296905025509&adgrpid=52920935723&hvrand=7027234049848966767&sr=8-14

I thought about growing it out last year but wasn’t brave enough.

I’ve read the reviews but wondered whether anyone on here has ever used it? I’m a bit nervous (but scared of hairdressers after too many bad experiences in the past!).

Thanks

I think the results would depend what your natural colour is and what sort of dye you have been using. Some permanent dyes stain your hair, so when you use the colour remover, the colour you're left with is different from your natural colour.
For example, I have brown hair (with a lot of grey!) which I've been colouring "golden brown". When I used colour remover, my hair was much lighter than my natural colour and had a reddish tone. I didn't like it and dyed over it.
I'm trying to transition to grey, but this time I'm planning to go 'cold turkey' rather than risk a colour remover again.

I’m the same as you but not brave enough to go cold turkey. Wish I’d done it last year during the first lockdown now.

Thanks for replying.

Hi OP, I used the Superdrug own brand version of this a couple of years ago to remove Purple from (bleached) Blonde and it was fantastic.

I've used them before, the result you get depends what's underneath.

If you have dyed your own hair darker then you will get back to something approaching your own colour although it may take several attempts.

If you have lightened your hair with bleach you will get back to the bleach colour. It can only remove colour particles you have added to your hair, it can't replace colour particles that you have removed (by bleaching)

Also it smells like bin juice so prepare for that!

I used the revolution beauty hair colour remover a few days ago. Let me tell you, it is brilliant.

I’ve been dying my hair a dark red for around a year now and didn’t like the way it looked on me at all (dyed over my blonde hair during lockdown last year to cover really bad roots). It took out all of the colour in one usage. I was hesistant too but it really worked for me.

If you have long or thick hair use two boxes Grin

But yes as PP said I now smell like a walking mouldy cabbage. The smell is absolutely horrific. But it does work.

These colour removers don't take you back to your natural colour.. your natural colour is gone, it will expose the underlying pigment which is dependant on how dark your hair is so will likely be be red or orange.
